Hilton beat Maritzburg College 38-22 in an entertaining match played on Gilfillan. Right from the start both teams set out to play positive rugby resulting in 70-minutes worth of action. Although Hilton took the lead in the third minute and never looked back, the result was really only secured by the home team in the last five or so minutes when they scored 10 unanswered points. Up until then College were still in with a shout.…
During their TV coverage of the Premier Interschools match between Monument and Glenwood today, the commentators made several references to 8 Monnas players being chosen for Craven Week, while a further 5 were included the Academy Week team. Furthermore the commentary team seem to know who the selected players were by name. It all seemed plausible right up until the end of the production when Defender (read player) of the Match, Monnas’ no.8 Wiehan Jacobs was asked a question related to his selection for Craven Week. Jacobs quickly replied along the lines that he was still hoping to be selected and that the Golden Lions Craven Week team had not been announce yet.…
Glenwood takes on the Monument Witbulle in a Premier Interschools game this afternoon. The match will be shown on a delayed broadcast at 21:30 on Supersport 1 tonight. One of the players well worth keeping an eye on is Glenwood fullback Corné Vermaak. Vermaak is in outstanding form at the moment. With each passing game he looks to have peaked but then seems to set the bar a little higher with his next outing. …

A few people might be unsure what to make of this but effectively two more Paarl Boys High players have been called up to replace injured Craven Week players JD Schickerling and Ryan Oosthuizen (both Paarl Gim). …
Ryan Oosthuizen, the highly rated Paarl Gymnasium player has been ruled out of Craven Week with an ankle ligament injury. The blonde centre has made a name for himself with standout attacking play that combines all the elements sort after for success at senior level. Oosthuizen is know for his x-factor ability to challenge defences with ball in hand or help beat them with accurate and at times visionary distribution skills. His game is build around good instantaneous decision-making. He is also a key component of the sound Gimmies defence that has suffocated many opponents this season.…
The KZN under-16 season definitely hasn’t been short of highlights. There have been some interesting results, exciting games and even times when games in this lower age-group has threatened to steal the limelight away from the more predictable outcomes of 1st team rugby due to the evenness of the competition that exists in the under-16 Tier-1 league this season. Saturday should be no exception when Westville hosts Michaelhouse, Hilton takes on Maritzburg College and St Charles plays at home to Northwood. DHS has been a bit of the boil but their current group of under-16’s have beaten Kearsney at under-14 and under-15 levels. Glenwood has their work cut out against Monnas.…
Ever since it became known that WP Grant Khomo Week selectors had turned a blind eye to Paul Roos Gim’s unbeatable under-16 team by selecting just one player for the squad of 22, it has sparked outrage throughout the region. As a result the level of interest in the age-group contest both locally and nationally has soared to new heights.…

Word from BHP:
…Midway through the season and I did some adjustments on the schools categories and shifted some up and some down according to the results against them so far. I also tweaked a little on my formula and adjusted the points scored for a draw. The result looks a little different than the previous weeks but I think maybe more accurate in current strengths.
The Tjampions League (subjective in its own right) was designed to measure the performances of teams in strength vs strength match ups only. 4 points to the winner and a bonus point to the team that win either losers by less than 10 or wins by 10 or more.…
