Ryan Oosthuizen injury another huge blow for WP u18

Ryan Oosthuizen, the highly rated Paarl Gymnasium player has been ruled out of Craven Week with an ankle ligament injury. The blonde centre has made a name for himself with standout attacking play that combines all the elements sort after for success at senior level. Oosthuizen is know for his x-factor ability to challenge defences with ball in hand or help beat them with accurate and at times visionary distribution skills. His game is build around good instantaneous decision-making. He is also a key component of the sound Gimmies defence that has suffocated many opponents this season.

Oosthuizen was member of the winning SA under-18 Sevens team in January and was selected to play for WP at Craven Week this year. He was also tipped to go all the way to SA Schools as well.

This is the second Gimmies player to be sidelined for Craven Week following Saturday’s win over Rondebosch. Earlier in the week it was confirmed that SA Schools star lock JD Schickerling would also miss the event as a result of a broken arm. Both players have made enormous contributions towards unbeaten Paarl Gim being rated the No.1 school in South Africa (BHP Top 50 Rankings) and are expected to return in the 3rd term.

Pollard beslis no 12. Maar by die Bulle moet hy 10 speel want klein Willie sy VC losskakel het nie BB kontrak nie. Dus speel hy nou Carltonbeker en Pollard losskakel. Die Bulle is broke en hopelis.

Let me rephrase for the sake of clarity, would have preferred to play him at 10, think he will be a better 10, in my opinion. Just like I said last year that Pollard would make a better 12. Once again, sorry for the confusion.

@Ploegskaar: Have you seen him play at 10?..I think he played there in primary school. As far as I can recall he played most of his rugby at centre for PRG..(the little he did play) ..have not seen him play at 10 at this level at all.

Gatslag om twee sulke goeie spelers te verloor. JD sal darem sy plek weer kan inneem met Interskole, Ryan se kanse is skraal.

@Maroon: Daniel is a better 10 IMO, and would have preferred him at 10 with Oosthuizen at 12 and Sage at 13.

@Ploegskaar: it is a massive blow. Oosthuizen and Daniel would have been great together.

That is a real shame – he was such an impressive player and KERF and I was really looking forward to his potential battle with Linde of the Bulls…

Also hope Jared comes up, very solid player who does all the basics very well – enjoy his straight running

You have to feel for Ryan Oosthuizen, he’s probably been the form centre in SA this year

@Ploegskaar: I certainly agree that Jared Sage should’ve been in the 22, purely based on what I’ve heard, he’s very good and I expected that he’d play Craven Week this year.

Hopefully an opportunity for Jared Sage, who should have been paired with Oosthuizen in the first place, to move up.
