@KES Oldboy: Agreed. It was like watching a test match…and as I said in my earlier post, it reminded me of the HJS v Affies game in 2017. My son was on 1st year Varsity holiday, so watched the latter game with me and was astounded and inspired by the high quality defence and passion. The 2023 KES v HJS game was equally good.

Also, as you say, a very nice touch by the KES number 8. That is the kind of quality gesture that makes me so proud of the ethos of the rugby community and you must be very proud of your alma mater for the gesture and the unbelieveable comittment that the boys displayed yesterday.

@Vleis: Selborne not looking great this year. We will have to turn up big time tomorrow or we will get embarrassed by KES.

That was a massive crowd watching the KES Vs Paarl match! And they certainly got their money’s worth. Not in terms of points but good hard rugby. I thought it was a great game & hopefully will inspire Paarl to come back next year. It was a nice touch of the KES No 8 to not wear a number out of respect for Paarl’s injured 8th man.

I was impressed with the effort that Parktown put in against Selborne. They were a lot better than I expected based on their results to date.

The KES v HJS game was brutal. It reminded me of the Affies v HJS game at St John’s in 2017. KES had two great chances to possibly win the game in the last few minutes…on one occasion the wing needed to be an inch taller to reach the line (great cover tackle by the HJS wing) and on another occasion the ref incorrectly called a forward pass. I don’t think that HJS were undeserved winners, but they will be extremely relieved with the win. That said, although I can understand why the much smaller KES played so flat, I was surprised that HJS did the same. I think that HJS has some work to do if they want to finish in the top three this year.

Uitstekende wen vir HJS in seker een van hulle moeilikste weke op en van die veld af.

Are the games being live streamed, and if so, what is the link?

:-o Northwood playing PBH. We stand no chance, the gulf in class is just too big,but a huge honour and moment it will be for the boys I am sure!

Selborne should be competitive this year. They won’t be anything special but I think we can crack the top 20 this year.
