BHP Top 50 – week ending 25 May 2013

Word from BHP:

Midway through the season and I did some adjustments on the schools categories and shifted some up and some down according to the results against them so far. I also tweaked a little on my formula and adjusted the points scored for a draw. The result looks a little different than the previous weeks but I think maybe more accurate in current strengths.

Update to include the adjusted last week positions.

48 Transvalia 1.60
49 47 Ben Vorster 1.56
50 Daniel Pienaar 1.44

* NOTE:  It looks strange that Nelspruit would for instance win and HJS lose, but they go below HJS…This is due to the fact that the difference between HJS’s average points per game between last week and now (2.91 – 2.83 = 0.08)  and Nelspruit’s(2.95 – 2.79 = 0.16) is half ..thus HJS’s average points was not dropped that much by losing to Grey as what Nelspruit’s was playing against HTS Witbank (not HTS Welkom)….Losing with  7 or less against Grey earned HJS 40% of 5 points = 2 Points while Nelspruits win against HTS Witbank is only worth 1 Category point….Strength vs Strength will always benefit teams.

I agree with Woltrui on the current form. A good example, Glenwood started the season with a few losses, but have bounced back and are on form now.

As always – a fair go at a ranking, but has it’s flaws. And like a team selection, we’ll all have our own views and biases.

@Tjoppa: “One day wonders”?

Waar was ek nou weer?

As ons one day wonders kon kies het Grey elke jaar eerste geeindig

@BoishaaiPa: 11? Hulle het nog net 10 vol wedstryde gespeel: Primrose, GCB, Nico Malan, Kearsney, SACS, Wynberg, Glenwood, Noord-Kaap, Stellenberg en PRG.

Pretoria Boys High School far too high on the list. Nelspruit, HTS Middelburg, and especially Kloof would murder them on the field. PBHS’s only note worthy win was against Maritburrough at home.
Top 10 schools on current form:
    Paarl Gim
    Affies
    Outenikwa
    Grey Bloem
    Garsies
    Jansies
    BoisHigh
    Kloof
    Nellies
    HTS Middelburg / Glenwood

@BHP. It was Nelspruit playing HTS Witbank in the Mpumalanga section of the Beeld trophy. HTS Witbank a couple of weeks ago also comfortably beat Middelburg High School in the final of the PUK Prestige series. HTS Middelburg in turn beat Middelburg High in a tough match in the Mpumalanga section of the Beeld trophy.

@Ploegskaar: You dont need to understand..Just “Keep the Faith”..Dont worry..the tweaking makes it more accurate!….You have to adjust with the flow!..That is what keeps it relevant!

There as been more tweaking and tuning on these rankings season to date than on a Cape Flats Corolla in a year. I have always promoted this ranking system to all and sundry, but with the parameters constantly adjusted, some seem to move north while others move south the more they lose! Obviously I am too thick to understand this complicated hocus-pocus, so better for a nincompoop like me to neither read or support any rankings in future then.

@BoishaaiPa: BHP you must please stop explaining your rankings. Some of the boggers hear will want to know if you took the weather into account just to cast some doubt over the rankings if all logical explanations was used. Either they accept it or not.

I know they are not one of the best rugby schools, but it is a school with quite decent results this year

@BHP Nelspruit played against HTS Witbank not welkom. HTS Witbank is a macro school in the Beeld trofee competition. Witbank not a well known rugby school but better than welkom
