Jesse Kriel replaces Sergeal Petersen for World Championships

An injury sustained during the Kings Super Rugby campaign has ruled Grey High and SA Schools 2012 wing Sergeal Petersen out of the 2013 under-20 Junior World Champs in France, starting in June.

His replacement is fellow 2012 SA Schools player Jesse Kriel. The former Maritzburg College fullback now piles his trade with the Bulls junior team. Kriel joins former College captain Stefan Ungerer in the 28-man squad.

During 2012, this website blog shortlisted both Kriel and Petersen as players of the schoolboy rugby season along with three Bulls players prop Pierre Schoeman (Affies), centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg (Klofies) and flyhalf Handre Pollard (Paarl Gim), who was this site’s schoolboy rugby player of the year. Pollard is already part of the Baby Bok team. Petersen won the Craven Week 2012 player of the tournament award.

@Westers: That’s a very good point Westers. Why was Fisher not included? The selection of the Baby Boks does indicate some Blue Bull bias….

@Umtata: Again, I am surprised that he was not replaced by Tyler Fisher who also made SA Schools with him in 2011. Tyler has also been part of the squad and was a surprise omission from the team when it was announced. Perhaps he is injured and I am unaware? Does anyone know?

@Beet (or anyone else). Reading one of BOG or Tjoppa’s posts above I wondered about the 3 guys that made the French senior side recently. I have not followed SBR so long – how did they do a few years back when they were School Boys? Can you give a recap perhaps (and any other bright lights we have lost to other countries)?

@Umtata: I know this is speculation and I may be proved wrong sooner than later, but I suspect that he was given some advice by the Springbok coach. I think that he will be in the final squad. Pity, because I was looking forward in seeing him alongside Dries Swanepoel

Im happy an OC was selected for the side but can’t help but feel Sean Robinson, the Sharks fullback/wing was unlucky to miss out given he’s still eligible and been involved to in Super rugby.

@Tjoppa: Accept it by all means, but dont have a discussion later about disappearing players and attrition, as if it does not exist. What I am saying is that we should not allow ourselves to become part of the “bullshitting ourselves” discussions. Its happening already, and the players have not played a game yet. The corruption alluded to by BHP, is symptomatic of a sick and declining society and the “activities” we read about at government level, spreads to every level and crevice of society until the inevitable occurs- self destruction. We are already at an advanced stage of collapse. I said it before. Years ago, I was a “communist” and now a “right wing, fascist Nazi”. If that is the price to be paid for a principled stand, so be it.

@Tjoppa: What I appreciate about Tiantjie and distinguishes him from other SBR 10’s IMO, is that he varies the depth and direction of play better than most, just check for that next time. He alone determines when to sit in the pocket for a kick or drop, when to play flat and off which shoulder and when to play blind or open. This creates that perception of time and space and the fact that he judges it right all the time, is his talent. That and his moerse boot, off the tea or out of hand.

@Ploegskaar: According to mr Kitch Christie a player that seems to have a lot of time or do not run at full pace but still beat the opposition is a quality player. If you can watch Eduard Keyter Affies 1st15 and Bulls CW.
Ploeg that is why I rate BL flyhalf.

@BoishaaiPa: Looking forward to see him play, irrespective of who he plays for. Really rate him, seems to have more time than most and already had the gift of knowing when to pass, kick and break at a young age. His commitment in defense always a highlight.

@BoishaaiPa: Nothing will suprise me I know a good 10 agents operating in RSA and the stories I hear. Well ja yes. To sum this up I will only appear with to of them in public. Children/Players is not the priority. Show me the Money. In Tswane you pay up to 30% of your child’s bursary/fee back to the agent because ,if I am not informed I do apologize, according to me they are only allowed to get commission if the player’s income exceeds R 120K. This do however exclude provincial PIMPS who work for a union.

@BoishaaiPa: @BOG: This is the real threat to RSA Rugby. Local talent that is not recognized because of inability or being just plain stupid. And as is seen on a daily basis our discarded players gets selected for national teams all over. The Big Trek all over again.

@Ploegskaar: You can say that again…I can foresee in the not some distant future when the Boks are playing England and a young English Flyhalf by the surname of Swiel is tormenting us with his linebreaks and distribution the collective shout from SA….”Why did we let him go!!!”

Pity that Tim Swiel has made himself unavailable, but he is obviously acutely aware, like the rest of us, that there is no place for a gifted playmaker with vision and incredible hands and feet in South African rugby and specifically current coaching set-up.

@BoishaaiPa: Its not an irony but the consequences of social engineering. And yes, dont in two years from now, say ooh, aah, I wonder what happened to so-and-so? We all know that quite a number in any representative team from SA, should never have been there in the first place.

Irony is that WP who won the u/19 CC only has 4 reps and one of them did not even make the WP u/19 squad….
