Queens has some really stiff competition! Looking at the teams they playing this will QC toughest assignment in years……Affies, and a round off with Martizburg College…I think QC will def have to kick it up a notch…this is not the St Sthithians festival….

@The Beast: Ye being to St Andrews/Bishops and Michael House all top class facilities Michael House most likely has the best.

Just do yourself a favour next time you in the Queenstown area go and have a look i think you will be very surprised. Not saying they have the best but must easly be in the top 5 in SA even Top 3

Ryan went from Queens to St Andrew,s at the end of he,s Under 14 year plus 4 other players. And as far as i can tell did not help them much at 1st team level they lost to Queens

@Grasshopper: Ja hey, a derby against Glenwood would be almost impractical to fit all teams.Dale have 11 teams less.So it would definitely be an A/B Team derby at best.Maybe have our C teams play your E/Fs.

@HORSEFLY NO.1: Depth isnt great at Dale either, but also working on it.At the moment,I think DHS could take the B teams down…but we would see great battles in the A teams.

@NW_Knight: I can certainly put it out there mate.Get the talking going now.

@Umtata: No news yet mate.Dale’s never recruited a coach from outside (barring Darryl Mauer in 2008 – though he had coached at Dale before). The search is still going.I’m not sure what the situation is at Queens.

@beet: Ryan left Queens for SAC at the end of his grade 9 year.

I had no idea about that QC-SAC situation.Maybe we need to cut a similar deal with both Selborne and St Andrews as they attract quite a lot of talent from Dale Junior, and have been for a while now.All above board though,so there are no issues.

@HORSEFLY NO.1: Queens and St Andrews where at a cross roads, in 2009 I think. Queens canceled the fixture as St Andrew was recruiting a number of their sportsmen, not rugby only(cricket & athletics). If my sources are correct, the headmasters at the time came to an agreement that if St Andrews recruits a learner from Queens they(the learner) would have to pay their fees for themselves in the 1st year they were at St Andrews. There have not been many cases of learners “leaving” for G.town after that.
Not saying Glenwood and DHS situation is similar. I watched the G.wood and DHS fixture on TV eaarlier this year, it would be sad if it was canceled.

@Grasshopper:Grey PE has about 20 rugby teams, so it would be a good fixture @Playa: Any news on who the new coaches for Dale and Queens? Playing N.wood at festivals first then a fixture down the line wouldn’t be a bad idea. With any school the number of teams they have depends on the success of the 1st XV, as winning creates interest among the boys, Dale had about 17/18 teams this year. Which is more then last year 15/16.

Horsie, I still can’t believe that you think the DHS vs Glenwood fixture will be called off, it won’t happen boet, Old Boys on both sides won’t allow it….simple….I don’t even think World War 2 stopped the fixtures….

    @Playa:
I think DHS-Dale would be great! We have similar no. Of teams and the A-teams would be good games. Don’t know about B side downwards though as we’ve been beefing up our depth lately but yeah could be good. Maybe to replace the GWD fixture?

@Playa, I think Glenwood would love a fixture with Dale but unfortunately it would probably be A teams only as Glenwood has up to 28 teams on a day. Grey PE might be a better down the line fixture for us…

Getting a derby going with a KZN school would be awesome.I know there used to be one against Beachwood back in the 80s.DHS would be great,or maybe revive the derby against what is now Northwood…or dare I say it…Glenwood.Though they together with Maritzburg College have far more teams than Dale.Queens play Marlow,I think that one would also be fitting.Never really thought of Outeniqua, but that would also be interesting.
Just further out,I thought about an annual fixture against one of the Cape Town southern suburbs teams (Bishops,Rondebosch,SACS ot Wynberg)

But this dream would need a lot of buy-in from Old Dalians and parents alike.

@Playa: Was thinking of some schools
    Outeniqua
    DHS
Marlow(with Cradock High to so all teams play)
This is all expansive and would require some assistance, from OD’s and parents. Any other ideas?

@Umtata: Agreed.Port Rex and Grens have gone backwards in the last decade, even Stirling has surpassed them.
I have suggested to the powers that be that Dale look into a fixture or 2 outside of the province just to beef up the fixture list.

@Playa: That’s very sad to hear. It would really be good for Dale Rugby if they had 2 more tough fixtures. No disrespect, but Port Rex and Grens should go back to being wednesday fixtures for Dale.

But I must say,the DP fixture was always a great affair.Just not when playing in Uitenhage.

I think Dale College need to try and bring back the Daniel Pienaar fixture, playing Marlow would also be a good idea. I see Queens will be playing Northern Cape High, good fixture for both schools. Queens will also be playing Kingswood, its been a while.
