Klofie Rohan Janse van Rensburg added to the Baby Bok mix

Waterkloof’s impressive 2011/12 centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg was arguably the best player at Craven Week in 2012. The solidly built SA Schools centre has been called up to replace Jan Serfontein (Grey College 2010/11) for the up and coming Junior World Championships in France starting in June.

Serfontein, the JWC 2012 player of the tournament has been withdrawn from the Bok under-20 team as it seems that he will form part of Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s senior international plans for the test window about to open.

With Robert Ebersohn (Grey College 2006/07) also in outstanding form, Grey College stands a good chance of taking their Bok tally to 43 this year. Paul Roos still leads the charge with 50 Springboks and with Willie le Roux is such dynamite form that number will surely grow to 51 at some stage this year.

@BOG: Sorry Bog the first few weeks of the month a take an extra pill or two to rev up the senses. So the end of the month do find that some days I am a bit confused. Even found myself on Saturday eyeing Tannie Jooste. Luckily the time I got to her front door I forgot what I was doing there. So do forgive me please.

@Tjoppa: Ask Beet to re-publish the list of primary schools contribution to SA S15 players. Guess which school is on top? With these comments you have once again, exposed your association with Krugersdorp

@Slam: This is apparently the plan. BB have taken LBB over and only games will be played and “Kill The Boer” stadium. All other activities will take place at the “Beeskraal”.

Muzi nice to see you haven’t disappeared completely.

Nice to see Jan Serfontein get the call up to the Boks. The correct decision as he will be a key player going forward. Better to have him there early growing with the team and getting comfortable in the surroundings.

And Rohan Janse van Rensburg with Dries Swanepoel will be a nice centre combination regardless.

@Slam: I am inclined to agree with you on the blue frock- an age restriction warning should come with it.@Umtata: When it comes to the selection of LFs, Labuschagne should be the first name down. He is not just marginally ahead, but miles. So, to answer your question- anyone.JG, as far as I can remember, was never really injured, but then it happened. If the human body is twisted and turned into a certain position, something is going to give, no matter who it is. His first injury occurred in defense, a tackle most FHs would have avoided.@jakes: My common sense tells me that JS has withdrawn for one reason only- his inclusion in the Bok squad. Otherwise, it would be inexplicable.

@Umtata: Lappies must be on the bench if he’s not starting, I reckon Meyer will start Louw at 6, Alberts at 7, Spies at 8. If that’s the case. Lappies must bench, major injustice if he doesn’t earn a cap

@BOG: We all know that Meyer is only consistant in picking out of form Bulls players! I am not saying he does not desrve a chance, he does but picking him ahead of all the players in front of him would be a kick in the face.
Look at all the injured u21/23 players they are mostly backline players who were rushed to their unions 1st XV. Teams target these young players a lot. He might be good enough but its not good for his career.
Goosen is injury prone!!! He hasn’t played much rugby since being injured in last years s15.

@Muzi: I’d say the Sharks are bad at developing centres as for the rest of the line we are on par maybe in some instances better than what others have to offer.

Why pull Jan Serfontein from the team-?You only get so many chances to play in a rugby world cup- whether JNR or SNR. SA should send the strongest possible baby Bok team. He still has a big future ahead of him in the SNR ranks, he should enjoy his JNR years and glory.. just my opinion

@BOG: The Sharks buy “quick fixes’’ and mercenaries….development of young backline talent at the Sharkies academy is poor IMHO.
Lindeque improved at Tukkies….Paul Jordaan’s distribution is shocking and it looks like Venter could be on his way to bloem.

@Slam: It just shows what often happens to players with commitment who are prepared to put their bodies on the line and dont hide- they get injured. I think most observers have very strong feelings about the numbers being signed by the BBs. To me, it makes no sense at all and if I was a young (how I wish) player, I would think very carefully before I sign with them. Ideally, they should remain in that bastion of civilization- Bloom -fon-teen and play their rugby there. An article appearing in the Citizen newspaper in the last couple of days, actually takes a closer look at the role of Grey in the success of the Cheetahs this year. Worth reading

@BOG: He should have never joined the Bulls. I don’t understand why so many of the juniors do it. What the Bulls should do in 2014 is loan their excess juniors etc to the Limpopo Blue Bulls and recall them if required. This will give them valuable experience plus strengthen a frighteningly weak VC side

@Umtata: If Meyer is consistent, and he selects on form, Labuschagne should walk into the team. On form, he is miles ahead of the others in every area, tackles/defense, ball carries and very good in the line-outs. Perfect replacement for Juan Smith. Strangely, the LF that comes closest to him, is Heinrich Brussouw. Whatever our opinions on Jan Serfontein, I dont think that he would have withdrawn if he was not given “confidential” information. He is the best centre in SA since Danie Gerber and some would argue that if you are good enough, you are old enough. Injuries comes with the territory. It happens to most and I dont think that Johan Goosens injuries, are age related. He could make his return and go injury free for the rest of his playing career. The last injury was completely unrelated to the previous ones and for some to suggest that he is “injury prone”, is not correct

@Muzi: Only one way to “balance” demographics- principled honesty. justice and merit. Its a constant- it never changes and was true throughout our history and wrongs are never corrected by more wrongs. Sadly, if one stood by those principles, you were disadvantaged on both sides of 1994. Ask me, but at least I sleep peacefully- even with an empty bank account. First word that I hear about the Sharks poaching activities(for this year) But rather them than your lot. Mind you, the BBs lifted Lindeque a bit. Surprised about Louw. I would have thought, being a Reuben Kruger type of player, he would have fitted in quite well at the BBs. But I can understand the Sharks. They need props who were raised on PVM- Pap, Vleis en Melk. And that does not happen in the vegetarian suburbs of Durbs.

@Umtata: Umtata concerning Serfontein I agree 100% with you. Give him another 2 years of experience and maturity and he will be the best in the world. In reality I am afraid that in 2 years he is going to be an “old crock”.
Can’t see a loose trio other than Alberts, Louw and Spies.

@BOG: Jan Serfontein should not be picked for the boks maybe in the end of year tour but not now. Picking kids to play our old school game plan is not a good idea. Look at Goosen, he never fully recovered from that knee injury last year.
Lappies is a good loosie but who is he going to be picked ahead of? Kolisi Marcel Alberts Botha Spies are all ahead of him.
With Juan out Robert could be picked, even though there’s wynand, Jean, JJ, are faavourites.

Beet, in my opinion and that of Premier Schools, GCB is already on 41 Springboks. And with the announcement of the Bok team, it could well be 42, 43 and 44 with Jan Serfontein, Robert Ebersohn. And if Lappies Labuschagne is not in that team, it would be a miscarriage of justice far exceeding the worst of selection controversies for CW, And for the record, most Boks have been post WW II.

Rohan Janse van Rensburg and Dries Swanepoel formed such a good partnership for the Bulls in the Vodacom Cup.I still can’t believe it that Neethling Fouche didn’t make the Baby Boks squad.
