Injured JD Schickerling might miss Craven Week

It’s been reported that star Paarl Gymnasium, WP Schools and SA Schools 2012 lock JD Schickerling broke his arm during the match against Rondebosch and may have to miss Craven Week altogether. He could be sidelined for 6 to 8 weeks. Whether or not this impacts on his chances of regaining SA Schools selection is unclear at this stage but what is as close to fact as it comes is that he has been one of the best performing players of the 2013 season to date. Province is one of the pre-tournament favourites to contest the unofficial final at Craven Week this year.

@beet: surely he cannot “jump” excuse the punt, the guys that have been selected in the academy team. Do you mean he will play for the academy and which of the other 2 will then play for CW?

@bhkgpa: The Gimmies 2nd XV lock has good height. He might be an option.

Schramm from KZN cw would be a great jumping option, watched him at the Kearsney festival in 2 consecutive years steel ball from the Affies giant and JD this year. He also packs great speed and skill set….

Bulls have good pack as well and I would not throw their backline away either..I think they will again be the team to watch this year…I am not to comfortable with our WP team…We have the centres, but you need a catalyst for them…and I think there will be too much controvesy over the fact that current 2nd team players from Boishaai was picked…That just seems wrong to me.

JD will be out for 8 weeks at That means that he will miss CW. Who would be the next best lock? Momsen?

@BoishaaiPa: Based on having a solid scrum, a good lineout when Schickerling was available, Bothma and Vermeulen in the backrow. Lots of quality in that pack.

A long way out predicted centre pairing of du Plessis and Oosthuizen as well.

Bulls, Province and SWD are definite favourites at this stage. Not so sure about Greystaat. The fact that GCB does not have PD players in their first team this year = less cohesion than in other successful years against Unions with schools that are capable of beating Grey.
