If my memory serves me correct the worst performers at junior level was the side of 2007. And in Matric they only lost against the mighty Grey side and Paul Roos. What was Farmer Brown’s most famous quote “do not count your chickens before they hatched”.

Way too many games for Glenwood again, trying to squeeze in as many games as possible against top 20 opposition to boost their national rankings. Trouble with this approach is when you come to play a Northwood or George Camplbell towards the end of season and big upsets happen!

@ Buffel, definitely. I think that would be better than St Charles to be honest especially now that the Doops are gone. Seriously though I would prefer that option, good hard games and every team gets a game on the day.

@Tjoppa: I think a lot of schools including our 2 KZN ones that play annual fixtures against Affies will be eying their chances to get a rare win in 2014. This is the Affies group that has struggled since u14 and I stand to be corrected but I believe both GW and MC have beaten them from u14-u16. The Affies team has improved every year but if they are an SA top 5 team in 2014, all stats of great teams that came before them aside, they will deserve to be remembered as the team that redefined the famous term Affie-guts

@Jordaan: Campbell would fancy their chances of winning and I’m sure that, after that famous victory we proved that anything is possible.

It would also be a good thing for Campbell to play Glenwood twice it just brings excitement to everything especially the players. The Campbell boys wouldn’t mind playing Glenwood twice at all

@burra: Thoughts on Glenwood playing Campbell twice instead of all the Festival rugby in an attempt to boost their national ranking?

Given the big upsets over the past few years, I’m sure Campbell would fancy their chances of getting a win.

@Ploegskaar: thanks Ploeg, I think the Glenwood coaches are stuck between a rock and a hard place, they need to play enough top 10 schools to attract the best at under 14 level but also need to play all the local/traditional fixtures. Any side that plays Grey Bloem, Affies, Monnas, Kearsney, Grey PE and Kearsney is really testing themselves. Most KZN schools are not. But it’s a fine balance, I think you right, Glenwood are 2 or 3 games too heavy!

@Grasshopper: Maybe a game or 2 heavy, but also the reason why GW is consistently considered the only serious KZXAN SBR contender annually. Not playing 3rd term, playing soccer 3rd term, only competing nationally every 10 years with a “dream team” and bragging about swimming, hockey and basketball is seriously Hairspray Musical, period.

@beet: not sure if the rumour is just that but would be interested to see if Kearsney does play Westville twice or not. Could be the beginning of some form of local derby which it already is. I can asure you that you would get a full crowd at both fixtures.

Certainly no ‘soft’ games for College. Emphasis is on all teams participating where possible..

@burra: I think we must organise a game between your spanners at George Campbell and ‘the Barbarians from Affies. We will leave the little ones to play in the sandpit.

@Buffel: I also heard mention of two games between Westville and Kearsney next year. I hope it happens.

I see Westville are the only school with no fixture on Saturday 31 May. Hopefully this gets “fixed”. Westville have too many fixtures against schools who cannot field enough teams to give all the Westville teams a game. The Westville hierarchy needs to address this now to keep the boys interested.
I have heard there are about 60 or 70 boys who will be part of next years Open age group who are already in pre-season training. That means there are about 30 boys already training who will get at most 10 games next year. With that amount of interest now they need to organize more games to keep the boys happy.

was lead to believe that Kearsney would play Westville twice this season. Also we play Michaelhouse at home again in 2014-Kearsney founders day. 15 games in a season is probably right. There is also the Games at KP which is the KZNRU initiative. Should be good rugby with some very close encounters.

@Tarpeys: I agree on the JHB schools, other than costs, it would be great to play one of St Andrews/St Albans/St Stithians annually, and certainly the likes of Kearsney twice a year. Having a double header against St Charles is fine, but it is rarely a real test.

@Westers: I agree you have said it all the Empangeni/R-bay fixture should be rather dropped and GC should be slotted instead or rather have George Campbell/Empageni/R’bay vs Westville.

@Grasshopper: If Im not mistaken, schools are contractually bound for a certain period with WK. Of course I agree that GW is overdoing things a little, but they would have to wait for the contract period ( 3 yrs , me thinks ) to expire. But then again, Alberts, Ludik and Mapoe, were all committed elsewhere as well and eventually, it was only Mapoe who did not arrive in Durban. They obviously have a Hollywood attorney.

@Greenwood: Agree 100%. Westville also have a fixture against Empangeni/Rich Bay. This is madness. They only raise 2 open teams each and the 1st team game earlier this year was about 25 mins 1st half and about 15 mins 2nd half. An absolute waste. If they want to keep this fixture, play it as a mid-week and let the Westville 5ths to 8ths play them. The only other school that plays them is GC.

we need the away & home games vs Westville -firstly , 1st game is too early in the season – a return match towards the end of the season would sort out whose the Durban top Dog !

21 fixtures for Glenwood again, too many! Three festivals is too many, need to drop one, Wildeklawer maybe. Good to see Westville there but first up makes it interesting, which team will be better prepared….

@ Burra-I don’t know for sure but I know every time we played, something was always not right. I remember playing them at Woodburn in mid- week about two years ago and from what I understand Michaelhouse was made to jump through hoops to make the fixture happen then there was the bar tab issue that I won’t get into because I dont know the details of it. I also don’t think Michaelhouse gives two fingers about the top ten. I could be wrong, maybe the fixture will be added at a later stage.

@Westers: I also noticed that WBHS has no fixture against GC really hope one is scheduled and plus it suppose to be played at Campbell in 2014.

@Tarpeys: Why was the Campbell game dropped. How will we get accurate results in the top ten if all the schools don’t play each other. All the top10 1st tier schools have to play against each so we can get accurate result.

Well done beet for compiling this preliminary fixture list.

I see Westville have no fixture against either Northwood or GC. Hopefully this is still to be scheduled.
Was also hoping that Westville would have home and away games against one or both of College and Glenwood, but seems not.
Also no 3rd term rugby – STILL.

I see Michaelhouse has finally dropped GC and Voortrekker and opted to play St Charles twice. I would have preferred us looking to play one more Gauteng school, St Stithians or maybe St Albans.
