Affies have upped their game by appointed two new 1st XV coaches ahead of the 2015 school rugby season. Jan-Hendrik Hattingh (history teacher) and Jaco Koch (gym manager/biokineticist) will take charge of the Witbulle backs and forwards respectively. Koch’s promotion means a new conditioning coach Janus Kruger (previously Boishaai) also comes into the mix.…

Kearsney in the market for a new rugby coach

Existing Kearsney head coach Frank Lubbe enjoyed a fitting end to his tenure at Kearsney when his team won the Voortrekker Sevens tournament on Saturday. Ironically the team they beat in the final was Maritzburg College, where Lubbe will ply his trade next year. On Botha’s Hill, the process to find his replacement is underway. Including Lubbe, Kearsney has had just 10 head coaches during a total of 73 seasons as a KwaZulu-Natal tier-1 team.…

An article in the Rapport newspaper (http://www.rapport.co.za/Nuus/Nuus/AfriForum-is-bereid-om-internasionaal-te-veg-20140906) mentions that a legal team of AfriForum will be acting on behalf of six under-16 players and their parents in a matter to oppose the racial quota system in South Africa. The complaint will be lodged with the IRB and will be taken up with the International Court of Arbitration in Sports (Lausanne, Switzerland), if the IRB is unwilling to prohibit the racial quota system in South African rugby. …

School coach suspended for breaching age-group regulations

A schools rugby coach who breached South African Rugby Union (SARU) rules governing under age rugby has been suspended and the points his school took for the match were overturned, following a SARU disciplinary hearing.The charge was the first brought to SARU under new regulations that were introduced to protect players under the age of 18 at the start of last season.
