The fullback from Grey is Garrick Mattheus. he played most of the season at 10 for Grey. He has also played a few games for EP U19 at 10.

@QC86: Is it official, David to WP after school? Would be unfortunate though. Heino Bezuidenhout and Josiah Twum Boafo are both brilliant centres, so if he does go, Kings will do well to retain these 2 boys.

Hope Warrick is gonna get good news today and hopefully fit to play in the semis or final if needs more time. I hope his boet is part of the group that got letters as well. You got yourself the red and black jersey yet?

@Ludz: Yip. Having his tests etc and is ready for a very busy season ahead. The trick for the Union is to keep the boys there after Junior rugby and there is the added bonus of SUPER 16 in 2016.
I think you will find it won’t be that difficult to keep them there .

@QC86: Brilliant, they must keep their home grown talent – the likes of Morgan Steyn, David Brits, Bosch – can’t remember the fullbacks name from Grey HS, anyway, they must be kept in the EC region – makes the level of the CC all the better having the talent spread

@QC86: Good move going to The Kings – they are up and coming with great structures in place. Not to mention, PE is a beautiful place :)

They are also playing a fantastic brand of rugby, as I said, were it not for the missed kicks (5 in total) the game against WP was theirs – We were all routing for them – but you can see, the passion and direction is certainly there, just hope they can keep the top players to continue into the u21 ranks and then senior rugga

Things are happening at the Kings and hopefully they retain a lot of the boys from a very successful Craven Week.

@RBugger: You hit the nail on the head, player management at the Sharks does not exist. My eldest son has just left the Sharks to move to the Kings. The Kings top management guys have spent more time chatting and finding out what his plans are and telling him what their plans are in the 4 weeks that he has been there than the sharks did in the nearly 3 years that he was there.

Having had the privilege of following this year’s u19 side very closely. I can tell you gentlemen the boys have fought hard. They are fighters. Apart from the will to do well. The coaching from the staff is excellent. Having been lucky enough to watch a few sessions with Mzwandile Stick who is the head coach, you can see why the young lads are headed in the right direction, excellent coach. Robbi Kempson, can’t speak highly enough of this man, he really is doing some amazing things for our junior structures. The most enjoyable thing about him is he’s a real disciplinarian which keeps the boys focused and in line

@Ludz: Hard to pick out players, as you guys play as a unit, all heart. However, your captain is a real gem, number 6 Velleman. Awesome on the ground and in the hit – he is a great player and I rate him highly – some quick backs too but like I said, just a very well drilled side playing with heart and desire :)

@Buffel: The managment is poor – look, the guys in this side are young and need direction, man managment. I know of one player in particular (you can guess who it is) who is crying out for some man managment. He is incredibly talented but is going through a hard time and his discipline has not been the best. Having said that, he is a confidence player and his lack of inclusion simply makes things worse – sometimes, a coach needs to be a manager and find out what is wrong and what makes players tick – this is just as important/if not more important, than actual coaching! But lets see, I have a funny feeling the young Sharks are a second away from getting it right – to click now, would be perfect timing :)

@beet: In my view this is the choice that the Kings are faced with. Their senior salary bill is up there with the highest in the country…albeit spent on an old age home. Luke Watson’s package alone can secure a number of these youngsters

The problem of these youngsters leaving for the bigger unions post under 19 will persist, unless they realise that junior rugby is an investment and not a short term success plan.

@Buffel: The Kings are doing a marvelous job at u19 level. Considering their dependence on locals, many of whom are not big name players and that this is the Union’s first season in the big times of junior rugby, their achievements have been outstanding. A lot of praise must go to the coaching staff at the Kings for the way in which they have extracted maximum output from their players.

At the end of this campaign EP will gain promotion to the u21 A-league as well, having narrowly lost out to the now defunct Border u21 last year.

This promotion will set up the next challenge – to be competitive at u21 level. Over the years I’ve followed plenty of Leopards u19 teams that have match the success that EP u19 has experienced this year, only to struggle to produce the same results at u21 a couple of years later with more or less the same players. The big unions generally seem to gain an edge through player development between u20-u21. So EP needs to realise that even better structures have to be in place to ensure their juniors stay on the right path once they move up to u21.

At and after u21 level, the focus will be about holding onto star junior players. Money talks loudest. A successful junior programme is a fundamental for senior rugby success but it amounts to little if a Union cannot retain its best players that come through the ranks. Retain the best players for the senior team and the junior programme is an investment. Lose them to big unions who come up with bigger offers and the junior programme suddenly starts to looking like a huge expense.

@RBugger: The set up this year is poor. They have a very talented player pool yet they cannot seem to gel.
A happy environment breeds confidence but when you have a mixed bunch coaching with no real direction then that is a disaster . When I saw the players contracted for 2014 I thought they would be the one’s to beat along with the Bulls. Now they struggle and sit mid table but can turn things around.
The Kings on the other hand have had a few narrow defeats and I believe could be dark horses to make the play-off’s. They have 2 fixtures remaining and win both they are through. The incentive is huge so am looking forward to a cracker this Saturday.

@Buffel: Howzit Buffel, I do hope so, it is not the same when they play outside the stadium.

This one is a crucial match – they have got to beat EP. They then face the Bulls, who are by far and away thes best side thus far, then an away game against WP, second best but certainly beatable since the injuries to Dan Du Plessis and Bothma.

From what I have seen, all sides are very evenly matched and anyone could win this years CC – Bulls being the favourites. If the Sharks finsih 4th, they will face the Bulls at Loftus. If this happens and the Sharks can play with determination and belief, they could very well go on to win the Cup.

They are capable, just need some team bonding and heart to hearts sessions – they have the talent, but something is missing amongst the guys – I personally feel the management of the side is not great – they need more unity!!! Let’s hold thumbs and see what happens

@RBugger: Are the u19’s playing on the hallowed park this Saturday or on the outer field. The Kings have a point to prove so should be a good game. This could go a long way to settling the 4 sides for the semi’s.
