Boishaai to replace Grey PE at Wildeklawer 2015

The 2-match-day Wildeklawer Skouspel 2015 takes place at Diamantveld Hoërskool in Kimberley on Saturday, 25  April 2015 and Monday, 27 April 2015 (Freedom Day public holiday).

This year HJS Paarl Boys High took part in the Sanix tournament in Japan and therefore skipped the prestigious Wildeklawer Superskole.  There was never any doubt that they would be invited to the Wildeklawer in 2015. The question really was who would they replace.

Well in a bit of a shock to the system the answer to that question is Grey High of Port Elizabeth!

There isn’t any controversy to this though. Grey would have easily cracked the nod to attend WK. They’ve enjoyed being part of the festival and the national exposure that comes along with it. The decision to withdraw from Wildeklawer is all their own doing. Two issues are at the heart of the decision: player welfare and Cape Schools Week 2015.

With Grey High being the flagship of Eastern Cape school rugby, a number of their boys are called on to perform provincial under-18 duty in addition to their school commitments. If the situation is not managed, Grey’s elite players could play in excess of 30 games in a season, which is crazy!

Cape Schools Week started back in 1980 and is played every two years. When it came into being it was only the second school rugby festival in South Africa after Craven Week. So it boasts a wonderful tradition. The honour of hosting the 2015 tournament to be held in the July holidays belongs to Grey High. As a result Grey had to review their other commitments and make the difficult but sensible choice to leave Wildeklawer off their fixture list.

The 1st XV’s participating at Wildeklawer SuperSkole 2015 are yet to be confirmed. Here’s the 2014 list with an update of those schools definitely not attending in 2015 (scratched out)
