Kearsney in the market for a new rugby coach

Existing Kearsney head coach Frank Lubbe enjoyed a fitting end to his tenure at Kearsney when his team won the Voortrekker Sevens tournament on Saturday. Ironically the team they beat in the final was Maritzburg College, where Lubbe will ply his trade next year. On Botha’s Hill, the process to find his replacement is underway. Including Lubbe, Kearsney has had just 10 head coaches during a total of 73 seasons as a KwaZulu-Natal tier-1 team.

I hope they still with teacher at the school and not go professional. The 2nds coach has been there for years and should be given a shot if he feel up to it.

@Tandem: Two friends of mine so can’t go into detail, they both coach 2nd tier private schools, one in JHB and the other in KZN. Both qualified, young and hungry….

@TheGoose: They should not rush things. Barend Steyn can take care of things until they found someone suitable. If they are to go with a teacher on staff – then surely the 2nd XV coach should get a shot – Moerdyk I think is his name? Is he suitable?

With Lubbe only having one season after being Barend’s deputy for so long, does anyone have any idea what happened and why he’s made this decision?

All previous coaches have come from the teaching staff – do you think that there’s a chance that the school will look externally to a ‘professional’ coach?
