Home team Marlow caused an upset by beating Outeniqua 17-10 in their Die Burger Large Schools semi-final. This is a reversal of the 2013 result when Marlow lost to the 18-6 to Kwaggas in George in the same competition. Milnerton old boy Damien de Allende will become Springbok number 862 when he runs onto the field in the Green and Gold on Saturday. It will be a proud moment for the player, his loved ones, his supporters and his old school. All who are affiliated to non-mainstream rugby schools should also find cause to rejoice.…
Of interest this weekend is that HTS Middelburg’s reliable scrummy Rowan Gouws starts for the Sharks while regular captain Ayron Schramm is ruled out by injury and flu. The strong Free State team’s starting lineup includes Limpopo sprinter Arno van Staden who came off the bench last weekend to score two tries in the win against the Leopards. Glenwood’s Corne Vermaak who’s had off the field issues to take car of also finds a spot on the bench this weekend. Outeniqua’s powerful no.8 Dian Koen is at long last called on to be a reserve for WP.
