WP has had problems at GK level since 2023 – mainly due to school selection politics. This has not translated to poorer results (yet) at Craven Week. 2026 may be the start …

Nee, obviously gaan al die spelers nie ontwikkel tot sterre op /18 vlak nie. Maar gaan kyk na die game, die talent en skills en besluit self of jy die manne op /14 vlak sal vat.
Kyk, my post was tong in die kies. Maar ek dink steeds die Wes/Suid Kaap se rugby kultuur onder POC gemeenskappe gee ‘n beduidende voordeel bo plekke soos Bfn en Gauteng.
So two years in a row WP not winning grant khomo. Is this a blip or is it a sign of more competitiveness? Let’s see how this translates in the next few years Craven Week results.

Boland Landbou is net soveel deel van die Boland soos die drie groot Wynlandskole: sit geografies daar maar speel vir WP.
In a perfect world, in 2031, Outeniqua, Oakdale and Boland Landbou would probably have great first teams. In the real world we will have the WP Big 3 bragging about rugby culture and talent nurturing. I wonder where the players from the SWD and Boland /13 teams will end up – it was a great final.

Unbelievable performance by the Lions u16s today! WP nowhere near clinical enough, but the Lions’ defence was unreal. I was surprised to see WP’s pack bullied in the way it was, especially the tight five. Nonetheless, I thought Van Zyl (7), De Vries (8), Stoffels (10) and Pietersen (14) had good games for WP. Kabamba (6) also decent. For the Lions, their whole pack was immense, as well as their 10, 12 and 15.
He had a proper game. He is the star player for Selborne u16s this year. Hopefully we can keep hold of him.

Great win for Border over SWD 👏
I’m watching the Griquas vs Border CD game now and wondering: why is there a Border and Border CD side at these weeks? Border is already a weak region and Border CD is basically uncompetitive. Would it not be better to have one Border side and allocate the extra slot to a stronger union’s second team?

The under 13 SWD Craven Week side is made up of players of about 12 schools, not just two. Under 16 and 18 provincial sides though, yes definitely.

Amazing how easy the game of rugby can be with a big pack, quick backs and coaches focusing on the basics. SWD team looks to have all these. Wish we could show some senior teams the space you can create when your backline attacks from deep, something this SWD team clearly understands. Going to take some stopping.

This SWD u13 side is winning the craven week without a doubt. The bulls were comfortably the best team in the north at all the warmup games. WP not looking great either to be fair. Boland will be their only challenger but I don’t think anyone gets within 15 points of this SWD side this craven week
Wow, Blue Bulls /13 just got smashed by SWD. Game stopped at 51-0 after 45 minutes. The SWD 12 is a monster with pace to burn.
Looks like the fixtures are well balanced, I had no idea that the honour of having an XV side goes to whoever the defending champs of the comp are, thought WP just automatically got that every year.
It’s just a tad bit worrying as the other unions don’t quite have the same depth in quality that WP does, but then again the Sharks are probably the next best province when it comes to that.
With that being said, Zim & Sharks XV essentially having a “quarter-final” game will probably not bode well for whichever side that wins because as good a game that could possibly be, they are more than guaranteed to be handed a walloping by whichever “A-side” they play in the “semi-finals”.
If these possible fixtures are anything to go by then they’d better hope & pray Boland beats the Pumas because those Mpumalanga boys have been churning out talent & absolute warriors in recent years.
Boland at u13 & u16 level are pretty class so it would be a long day nonetheless. For poor Boland this is the stage at which Menlopark, Garsfontein & DHS do a little bit of window shopping & pre-ordering their next 1st XV players.
