7s rugby at Glenwood

The annual 7s tournament takes place at Glenwood on Saturday, 18 August 2012. Its an all day affair, starting at 7:30am and ending with a short prize-giving at 17:30pm. 24 schools are participating. They are divided into four groups of six. The schools in each group play each other. Once the group stages are completed, the knockout portion of the competition begins at 14:30pm.  The format is tough because only the winner of each group progresses with a chance to become the overall winners, while all other schools depending on where they finish in their respective groups end up playing for the minor places.

@All Black: I mean that the final matric exams will be close by then. My daughter finishes trials on 20th September and starts finals not that long afterwards – around 20th October. A month break is OK I guess.

Interestingly, the MC team featured a number of U16 players and apparently NO matrics who are busy preparing for exams. This bodes very well for next year.

@All Black: Eeeisch – Matric exams are close by then but I suppose with signed contracts in the bag the pressure is slightly off. University of Pretoria will probably guarantee a spot, all they really need is the Degree pass.

Looks like Jesse and Dan Kriel may both be available for the Inter provincial 7’s at the end of September. No cricketers play for College 7’s. Assume that is the same for all schools?

@GreenBlooded: Well, they trusted you for the other 24 points in the game, what makes the last 2 different. Good stuff.

I like the thought of the 3rd term being a full on 7’s term. Give the Stayers a chance to find their feet, provide a real change.

@GreenBlooded: That’s legendary! Classic. Sorry, I was just told it was a marginal call, and did not wanna make an issue about winning, and thought diplomacy would have been the middle road to take. Good for you Blooded. I assume Law 6A4a goes something like; “I the bloody ref, stay behind the white line, I know MMA, and if you wanna try, go for it,take the whistle from around my neck at your own peril, because, I have it and you don’t…so deal with my calls as they are as honest as I can make them!!!

@KCOB: Score was 14-12 to Kearsney. The disputed call was a conversion kick which was high above the upright. A marginal call. I was the ref. I made the call. I stand by the call. The Westville coach felt it was wide, I felt it was good. I had the whistle. Law 6A4a.

Though Kearsney came 3rd, beating Westville which I heard should have been a draw; poor ref decision?

@Star, hmmmm not sure about that. You just need 3 quick flanks and 4 great backline players to do well. Glenwood do have the speed out wide, only time will tell….

It seems that the hosts will have a tough time to make it through as they play a MHS team laden with CW players.
