JOHANNESBURG, 17 April 2013: The Mutual & Federal Premier Interschools magazine show will hit television screens tonight for the first time in the build-up to Saturday’s season-opening match between Johannesburg rivals KES and Jeppe.
The first episode, which will preview the match and provide viewers with in-depth insights on the rich traditions and rugby legends associated with the participating schools, will be broadcast on SuperSport One, SuperSport One Africa and SuperSport CSN at 17:45. …
Not too much happened this week to affect the top of the table rankings IMHO. There was one huge game at Brug Street in Paarl. The Kwaggas who were already my No.1 team won it but Boishaai did not disgrace themselves and in my books they are still pretty much a Top 10 team, a view that Rugby15.co.za and SASchoolSports.co.za do not seem to share. At least SASchoolsports was able to promote the Kwaggas to No.1 on their list.…
In February SBRer Rugbyfan got us underway with his predictions of how the season would turn out: http://schoolboyrugby.co.za/blog/?p=2493. All the top contenders have a few games under the belt now. St Andrews is there somewhere above the cloud. At this stage they appear to be the overachievers in the region in terms of the pre-season forecasts.…
KZN teams College and Northwood put in spirited performances against difficult opponents in the form of Pretoria Boys High and Jeppe over the weekend. However 2 more loses, now means that the Gauteng boys have a 4-0 lead with 8 to play. KZN look like they are going to need a European Ryder Cup team like comeback to win this one.…

JOHANNESBURG, 10 April 2013: South Africa’s popular Premier Interschools rugby series on Wednesday received a massive boost with the announcement that leading short term insurer Mutual & Federal had signed a three-year contract as the title sponsor, with Cell C and G4S as associate sponsors.…
Outeniqua is on top while Worcester Gim occupies 50th place. Lots of rugby still to come this season, so expect the formula driven ranking systems like this one to eventually start delivering the more trustworthy placings once all teams have played 6 or more games under the belt.…
Two websites: Rugby15.co.za and SASchoolSports.co.za have put out their rankings for the Week ended 05/04/2013.
At this stage apart from the top 2 on both, things look very different. Anyway you decide which is the more accurate one.…
Edited. Okay so your probably wondering what this is all about. Very simple, KZN schools versus English medium Gauteng Schools, eleven games, one on one with the aim to assign all-important bragging rights at the end of the season to the region that wins the most games.…
The only thing official about the WP Premier League is that it is officially tough. The competition is hot down south. Quality players make for quality teams. As a result, well the analysis of the Super Rugby players’ schools attended says it all, the region produces more professional rugby players than any other in South Africa. It’s an annual norm but worth mentioning once more that several WP schools will hold down national Top 20 places come the end of the season. …

Here is a match report in point form from this great match between two seriously good teams, Outeniqua and Grey College, the highlight of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival for 2013 :…

With the help of some key matches over Easter, schoolboy rugby followers are starting to get a rough idea of where everyone fits into the big picture.
It was a good weekend for the likes of EG Jansen, Nelspruit, Garsfontein, Gimmies and Maritzburg College. An excellent weekend for Outeniqua and Klofies. And a not so good weekend for Paul Roos and Grey High.…
