@Woltrui: Would not faark with him though, have it on good authority he was 16 when he turned out for the strong Queens ’84 outfit. The game fish punching buffalo wrestling type, if you catch my drift.

@BOG: there are two arms of Gaelic languages, Irish, Manx and Scottish are similar but Welsh is very different. True about the beer it brings out the Celtic in all of us!

@Grasshopper: But originally, the language was common, or am I wrong? I know for certain that “Welsh” is still taught optionally in some schools in Wales and in the many pubs around the original Cardiff Arms Park ( Millenium Stadiums predecessor), it sounded if they all spoke that after a pint or two.

@BOG: Gaelic is a general term for the Celtic countries, each is very different though….

@Gungets Tuft: Which part of Scotland do the ancesters hail from? I traveled it quite extensively when I lived in that little dorp, called London town for 7 years. The common language the Irish, Welsh and Scots have in common, is it not Gaelic? I know that it is still taught in Wales.Or do I have the cat by the tail? I must just not start on the Irish jokes. My neighbour was married to an Irish wife and he kept me up to date.

@Gungets Tuft: Totally can associate with you, my family is Irish and we certainly do speak another completely different version of English, both when sober and when drunk……distant Celtic brothers perhaps? Looking across the Giants Causeway to the Scottish giant the Irish giant said, ‘potato’ just come at take our land and ladies lads….

@GreenBlooded: Arrrr, Scottish by bloodline, got my own tartan in fact, cannae be wearing a kilt though, scares the kids and traumatises the neighbours pets. There is a distant link that I claim to Ireland, sent to Australia many years ago due to a slight disagreement with the poms. I fondly cling to the link when I feel the need to pour Irish beer down me gullet .. which is fairly often. I then lapse into an accent mixed with Scottish, Irish and Swahili which makes me difficult to follow. Strangely, fellow drinkers never have an issue …

@Gungets Tuft: Stokers in Kloof is a legendary institution. Before I was married I was customer of the month there for 8 straight months. The manager still gives my wife the stare of death when we go there. Giffus a holla next time you go there…..

@BOG: Sadly, wrong on both counts. I have a long (too many years to relate here) association with the school and they know me too well to trust me with anything relating to provision of alcohol.

However, I know that College have long had a rule about serving alcohol before rugby matches (hockey is different cosYcos hockey parents don’t fight, they just get early dronkverdriet, probably due to the high proportions of quinine in their chosen drink).

I am not sure this is going to change. Do you think it is too late to move the WK tournament?

As for cellular signal, all 3 major providers have no issue anywhere around Valhalla … er .. I mean Goldstones. Vodascum has an issue up near the boarding houses (especially Nathan House above the swimming pool). If you decide to go up to that part of the grounds please be aware of the requirement for new boys to sprint between the speedbumps in front of the War Memorial. Failure to do so will result in a week of weeding at 5:00am.

Beet will have no issues at all. I know for a fact he will be stationed on the Princess Margaret end of the ground keeping his eye on his car, since it was nearly Affirmatively Shopped last time he was at College. I think they saw the I Love Kearsney sticker and thought he could afford another. Or perhaps it was the “F@#$ the Poor” sticker  :)

Failing that I can arrange a slave to follow him around with a large stick with copper wire rolled around it as a signal conductor. In the very likely event that this does not work (Maths Lit and Woodwork did not help my Phy Sci ability), I can just get the slave to klap him a few times to give him rigting …

All this just to show you how hospitable us Collegians are …

@Gungets Tuft: As head of a family consisting of HMs subjects, I speak an Oxford vernacular. But I do draw a line when my daughter speaks of “toe-foo” (Tofu in Mozambique) and “cozee Bay” It completely contradicts the Free State edition of the Oxford Concise Dictionary which has, with a few exceptions, contributed substantially to bilingualism at GCB. Please help Beet with the location of the beer tent at WK. Its crucial for reliable feedback and I assume that you have significant influence at both the school and the suppliers of the beer.

@star: We also deal in “kaaind” .. gnome sane?

Exchange rate is R18 per Guinness, said amount to be left behind the bar at Stokers in Kloof (that is Kleuff .. not Klooorff .. for Bog), or at the Shamrock in Durban North. Remember, one Guinness is just insulting, 2 is teasing, 3 is a tentative start to a friendship …

@Rugbyrealis: Die uitsluitlike doel van hierdie lyste is om mense soos Tjoppa en Wolboude te vermaak. Dit hou hulle ten minste van die strate af en uit die besoedelde Hennopsrivier

@ Gungets- Only if it is tax deductible and I know you Maritzburru boys only deal in cash. I am glad see that celebrated MC OBs are supporting the first team. Joel was at the PBHS match and on the Sports School TV program I saw that Dave Miller was in attendance at the MC 150 festival. I must say he has got a very pretty girlfriend.

@star: Pay the Maritzburru boys and they will block the N3 on Town Hill, make the okes sit in the bus for 2 hours extra. I am told a 9-hour journey really softens them up. Then a solid take-away from the Oriental and a party till 3am. Bob’s your auntie …….

Pretoria Boys are ranked 11 and also top 20 on all the other rankings. They obviously have a good side this year and Westville will have to be at the top of their game to win. It will be interesting to see how the outcome(either way) will affect their relative rankings.

I think Glenwood are perfectly placed based on current results, even though they whalloped Selborne by 40 odd points and they are 8 places above them. KES will not like this ranking at all……by the end of the season the whole thing will look different so not too bothered about the positioning now…..far too early to tell….

Geen pyne met die ranglys. Is nog vroeg in die seisoen en sekere spanne het baie sterker opposisie gespeel as ander weer. So ja geen probleem.
Spanne wat vinnig gaan opskiet is, Garsfontein, Jeppe, Centurion, Bois en selfs Nelspruit.
