Official Final Rankings for 2015

Here are the final rankings for 2015 as presented by BHP. For the last couple of week provisional rankings were used.

The BHP scoring system works as follows:

Win : the full category points of the opponent
Win Bonus: 0.5 points for a win by a score of 30 points or more.
Loss: no points for a loss.
Loss Bonus for losing by less than 6 points: 60% of opponent’s category points
Loss Bonus for losing by less than 11 points: 40% of opponent’s category points
Loss Deduction: a deduction of 0.5 for a loss to a school in a lower category
Draw: 80% of opponent’s category points…

Dale pips Queen’s 15-14 after a pulsating finish

Geez what an incredible finish to this good game. Queen’s scored an awesome try with hardly any time lift to take the lead. Dale struck back with a superb effort of their own to regain the lead by a point. Queen’s then produced some outstanding focused rugby combining good handling with  continuity from rucks as part of a patient attack but the Dale defensive structures were up to the task and held out for a memorable win.…

History of the Beeld : Garsies make history

After losing out by one point to Nelspruit in 2014, Garsfontein from Pretoria rewrote the history books on Saturday when they beat HTS Middelburg 42-40 in the Beeld Noordvaal Trofee final to claim the much sort after “Macro Schools” title for the first time in their history. Garsfontein opened its doors in 1988. The 2015 final also accounted for the highest number of points scored in a final – 82 points. The previous highest was 43 – 23 in 1998 when Affies beat Waterkloof.…

There’s a new development in the case of the school rugby referee that was attacked by a spectator on Saturday 15 August 2015, after the Beeld Large School’s semifinal at Oos-Moot in Pretoria. It is being reported that the Blue Bulls Rugby Union are now in possession of photographs showing the bakkie and number-plate of the alleged assailant. …

Exciting playoffs in the Kovsie region’s Shimla-liga

This is an exciting part of the season in the Free State-Griffons-Griquas Central region as a result of a cup being up for grabs. The Kovsie region competition’s Shimla-Liga for medium schools has produced some tightly contested playoff outcomes. The South African College High School (SACS) played host to Diocesan College (Bishops) on a cold and rainy morning in Newlands. Despite the conditions the oldest schools derby in South Africa lived up to expectations as a desperate Bishops team threw everything at a gutsy SACS side. A strong North-West wind meant it was a game of two halves, SACS winning the first (8-nil) and Bishops the second (7-6), meaning the hosts won 14-7.…
