@Snelvuur (Comment #79)
Thanks Snelvuur. I rate both those u15 teams.
@agter_die_pale_pa (Comment #77)
u14s 15-12 to PRG
u15s 24-10 to Paarl Gim
@Middies pa (Comment #75)
@Kaya 85 (Comment #76)
Thank you! Tough game against Waterkloof away on Saturday.
@agter_die_pale_pa (Comment #72)
Anyone perhaps have the PRG/PGim scores for the u14s and u15s?
@AbsolutMenlo (Comment #74)
Well done Menlo. We also very impressed. Like u guys a lot!!
TUKS LOSS IS MENLO'S GAIN
Menlo is on a up and it is good for Pta rugby. I think TUKS made a huge mistake to let Andries go. He knows his stuff and you can see it in the way the Menlo forwards are playing. Good luck for the rest of the season.
@Maroon machine supporter (Comment #61)
@agter_die_pale_pa (Comment #73)
Thank you for the support!
I’m so glad for Menlo and Menlo rugby for the way the season is going!!
Dirk Odendaal (Rugby Academic Head), Andries Fereira (Head Coach) and rugby coaching team are doing an excellent job!!
@Maroon machine supporter (Comment #61)
Also very happy for them. They took a beating the last couple of years on the field, off the field, on social media, around the braais, everywhere. Some of it self-inflicted, some maybe just plain bad luck on repeat. But it showed how quickly things can go south against top rugby programs if you loose your grip.
It seems that the one thing the new Headmaster brought to the table is stability and structure. Too many chefs spoil the broth. Maybe his experience at Boland Landbou (and Nelspruit for that matter) coming in handy for Menlo. Still very early in his tenure but so far so good. They were right on the edge of a very slippery slope but seems that they may be turning the corner, a good thing for SBR rugby in Pretoria in general. Time will tell..
Where can one see the full results of all the PG/PRG & GCB/Boishaai games?
BEST COMMENTARY EVER...
The commentary team was brilliant. 50% English + 50% Xhosa = 100% entertainment. When you hear about suplex tackles for the first time it catches your attention!
@Kaya 85 (Comment #69)
The Jade Brigade had a good weekend overall…played 18 games, won 13 and lost only 4.
@Maroon machine supporter (Comment #66)
Stellenberg won by 1…see highlights video on YT
@BoishaaiPa (Comment #63)
Daai pak voorspelers van Boishaai was full value for money gewees…
@Coolguy (Comment #48)
Yip just too much. May hurt their domestic season a bit, but been good to expose the boys as well I suppose and their performances at Wildeklawer didn’t hurt their reputation. But now I see we playing House on Friday instead of our first easier fixture, which would have been St Charles. Simply no rest and now a rematch against a team who will be intent on wanting to get revenge for the last minute loss in round 1.
@Wondermaar (Comment #65)
Stellenberg won 23-22 as per their FB post…
@Atlantic (Comment #64)
Who is the real Victor’s? Beet?
CORRECTION

Thank you. Thank you. I have fixed both
Think Monnas vs EG Jansen score is also wrong way around. Dr Jannie must be sweating a little…
Stellenberg vs Bosch score correct? Was under impression Stellenberg won?
@Kaya 85 (Comment #53)
You have a better change getting tickets for The Masters golf tournament🤣. Your best bet is one of the Cape bloggers, BHP etc…
@Kantman (Comment #54)
@Kantman (Comment #54)
How about that Helpmekaar score?
Paarl Boys yikes very very strong.
Well done.
Paarl Gim very very strong too.
Also well done.
That Paarl Derby is going to be huge!!
When is it…
Where can I get tickets?
Selborne 27-16 Port Rex. A win is a win. Heart break for Rex who were in it until the last 5 minutes.
@Wondermaar (Comment #46)
Very, very wet. Atrocious.
Final score : Gim 17, PRG 10
@Coolguy (Comment #48)
Glad we not playing House now on trials day, Eish! But Hilton beat House, going to be a tough day for the Wood!
@Skywalker (Comment #43)
The parent’s wallets too! Eish!
@Skywalker (Comment #43)
That’s a lot of travel for the lads, when do they get time to study! House had a productive Friday gig against Kearsney racking their highest points tally over the white stripes.
@Wondermaar (Comment #46)
30mm rain in Cape to fall on Saturday – evenly spread through the day. First real chance to see who can handle wet fields best.
@Snelvuur (Comment #37)
If it is wet Roos by 15 win
Yikes.
@Snelvuur (Comment #37)
2. The two Hickman and van Vuuren impressed me even more after the rotations came in against EG Jansen. Didn’t realize how well they are playing until they weren’t there (which is usually how you measure a prop’s skills if you ask me)
@wanza_15 (Comment #22)
I think the game this weekend should be a good contest. I worry about the travel fatigue hitting the NW players a bit now. A trip to JHB for KES Fest, then back home for DHS, then off to Kimberley for Wildeklawer and now back on a bus to JHB…I am worried its going to catch up to them and i hope it’s not this game as i think it could be a good tussle based on form.
Just to clarify, Oakdale Lite’s 1st team and age group a-teams not playing this weekend. 2nd playing Monument Park 1st, 3rd playing Bosmansdam 1st, 4th playing Camps Bay 1st
@Kaya 85 (Comment #40)
The Garryowen is also an Irish jig that the Seventh Cavalry (Custer’s regiment) used to play as a marching tune whenever they went into battle. The jig references the town of Garryowen – and it was their rugby club that revolutionised the game by kicking up and unders (which is why they are still referred to colloquially as Garryowens!).
@Snelvuur (Comment #37)
Nee wat ou maat..
You had me with niche historical reference and Prof Deon’s not here to explain it. How did Custer use up and unders on the way to Little Bighorn? I’ve heard of Custer’s ‘last stand’ and am picking up the life & death / all or nothing vibe…but didn’t Geronimo wipe them out completely?
@Kaya 85 (Comment #34)
Yikes no, I can’t imagine having to deal with a kid that was as problematic as me, or worse – and there were a ton. This coupled with my short patience, definitely not a career for me. I work in IT as an Engineer.
@Kantman (Comment #36)
Sjoe. As dit gebeur, is Bosch se seisoen in die moeilikheid. Hulle steier steeds na die Boishaai-skok.
The rain predicted for Saturday in Stellenbosch is increasing all the time. Up to 28mm now. What I think PRG needs to do in the wet:
1. Kick your up ‘n’ bloody unders – they have quick, big wings that compete well in the air and chase kicks really well. They were, unfathomably, reluctant to kick high balls to Affies in the rain. So now I want more Garryowens than General Custer played on the march to the Little Bighorn (niche historical reference, kudos if you got it) and I want the big boys chasing them all day long.
2. Scrum needs to be good again – this was the one pleasing aspect of the game against Affies. Hickman and Van Vuuren showed up at scrumtime.
3. The hooker is key – Whitehead has been exceptional for Gim and will be favourite to start for WP next year. Rabe, this year’s favourite for CW, will probably start for PRG. He will need to be firing on all cylinders: in the wet, lineouts and mauls become key attacking weapons (ask Affies).
4. Tackle Markus Muller – how do you defend against this kid? He’s too good. The rain might slow him down a bit, but Smith and Kleyn have their work cut out for them. Will be interesting if PRG opts to man-mark Muller as they did with Felix against Grey last year. Is he man-markable? Probably not.
5. Win the breakdown – if Rabe plays (which he should) PRG has a natural fetcher again. We’ll probably see Van Wyk and Kent on the flanks again: neither are great jacklers, so Gim will be going hard here. Could PRG spring a surprise and start Christian le Roux? He does not offer as much ball in hand as Van Wyk and Kent (yet), but he made 3 turnovers (2 penalties) against EG Jansen, without conceding a single penalty. In a tight, muddy game his skills in bossing the breakdown could be key.
6. Finally, win the battle of the 8s – if the WP selectors don’t attend this game, they shouldn’t bother having trials. This is the showdown of the two WP 8s: Potgieter and Kemp. Against Affies in the rain, Potgieter was outshone by McDonald, while Kemp had arguably his best game at 8 for PRG vs the men from Lynnwood Road. On Saturday, it’s anyone’s ballgame. Two brilliant young 8s who’ll be in SA Schools contention later this year.
And then, the match-up that never was: Pheiffer vs Koen. Two fantastic u17 flyhalves and ace goalkickers. Would’ve loved to see them go head-to-head. Unfortunately, Pheiffer is unavailable for reasons no one from PRG can mention 😉. The tactical kicking battle in the rain will still be key. Could PRG be exposed there?
Rondebosch vs Stellenberg
Stellenberg by 3
Grey vs HJS
Paarl Gim vs PRG
One draw, One win by 14
Not sure which is which
@wanza_15 (Comment #31)
Spoken like a true educationist.
Well said.
I’m wondering are u an Educator?
Need that kind of ethos always to prevail.
@Ringo (Comment #32)
That’s fine and well but then why expand the fixture list like this if nothing really is gonna change as far as your approach. Could have just kept it the same then lol?
@wanza_15 (Comment #31)
I think you would agree Jeppe has always aspired to be the best Jeppe it can be and will also be that. It would be a sad day when Rugby wins drive the leadership of the school. But give me a season where we beat PTA Boys, and KES and that will always make me happy…. But I think the drive is to be a fantastic public boys school that is not elitist. The type of place that turns ordinary boys into exceptional men. Paying it forward and ensuring thousands of boys enjoy the experience in a school that is constantly improving in an environment where decline seems to be the norm….. winning rugby games is an ancilliary benefit but not the primary goal
@Kaya 85 (Comment #30)
Could be what the boys and old boys want, but one wonders if it is what the school wants. The intention should be to excel at that which you do, so if tackling 6 of the top 10 schools is what we want to do, our actions must match that. We should be seeing formidable u14 teams coming through year on year (they’re pretty handy this year I must say), and u16 teams we are really excited to send out in to opens. So then resource allocation. There is a whole lot allocated to rugby, there’d need to be more unfortunately. Then it is a question of ethos and what about the well-roundedness of a boy and the school and blah blah blah, you get the gist. Under Mr Jackson? Forget it. He is all about the holistic experience and approach, got our first and then second and then third 100% matric pass rate under his watch. But then this is his last year as he moves on to St Johns, and I wonder who the next headmaster is going to be and his focus/philosophy. The opportunity is there, “Paarl of the North” sounds flattering.. One can never have these kinds of conversations without the mention of KES if it is an English school specifically you were alluding to
@wanza_15 (Comment #22)
Jeppe could take their rugby to another level…they are being exposed to the big Big dogs and are running with them (and barking…and “biting”… to extend the metaphor).
The players look robust, passionate, and hungry. Ambitious! Could Jeppe become the Paarl Boys of the North?
@Asterix (Comment #26)
Thanks for clarifying that. It is not on the schedules for both Affies and KES in this blog.
@Djou (Comment #27)
Ja, I had them all and then when it posted, it all got jumbled 😂 shows you how much predictions are worth. I have Garsies > Kloof, for what it’s worth. And quite comfortably too.
@Snelvuur (Comment #15)
Wow, a very long list.
Maybe consult with Kaya, he would know the scores. 😄
I can’t find Ermelo vs Kloof in the fixtures list. Typo?
Ermelo playing Potch Gim.
@Cappie (Comment #24)
It is in the Affies and Kes calendar for the 24th of May.
@Cappie (Comment #24)
I could think of 102 reasons why…
It looks like the traditional Affies vs. KES interschool fixture isn’t scheduled for 2025, which is unusual given their long-standing rivalry. Any reasons for that?
The mountain’s peak isn’t getting any lower, Northwood next for us who are a tough bunch
A good win for us v Maritzburg at Wildeklawer, our best performance of the season so far.
I wonder how different our fixture list will be next season from this, I would hope that it isn’t given that much of this is a Grade 11 team.
But bring on the Knights this weekend, no excuses, no let up, can’t complain about a full plate when the plan was to eat!
————————————
Jeppe 29-26 Northwood, more my heart than my head, but I think we can!
KES 16-27 Westville, Jeppe dodged the bullet that is now headed for Houghton.
Parktown 33-15 Bennies, really like the look of Parktown.
Hilton 25-21 Pretoria Boys
HJS 29-22 Grey College
Paul Roos 19-30 Paarl Gim
@Kaya 85 (Comment #20)
Playing the odds! Bound to get one right somewhere along the line 😂 I see the formatting stuffed up when I posted it though.
@Snelvuur (Comment #15)
Yikes every game in SA Sneller.
@Trots HJS (Tandem) (Comment #18)
Ek is by n troue in Robertson Saterdag.
@OomPB (Comment #16)
Oops. Drukkersduiwel.

@OomPB (Comment #12)
Ek stem saam. Boishaai gaan nie weer hierdie jaar verloor nie
TOO CLOSE TO CALL
@Wondermaar (Comment #6)
@JongMatie (Comment #7)
Is Jurenzo al reg ….
@Wondermaar (Comment #6)
Hang af hoeveel beseerdes on het 😁
@JongMatie (Comment #5)
PRG 32- PR 20
HJS 24- Grys 22
Too close to call both games!
@Wondermaar (Comment #3)
Dis immers waaroor skool mos eintlik gaan
Affie manne vat bietjie die Akademie vas die komende week😆
@OomPB (Comment #1)
PRG vs Gim, Boishaai vs Grey. Twee groot groot games.
