Wynberg Boys High School have gone from woodenspoon holders in 2017 to 2018 champs in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. This season seemed extra competitive with an average of only 8.3 points per game separating the winners from the losers over the very exciting 12 match derby series.…

Things couldn’t be tighter in Cape Town. The four Southern Suburbs derbies played during August have produced an average winning margin of less than 3 points per game. Wynberg edged out Bishops 22-20 and now have their destiny in their own hands but they will have to win on the road at SACS to be sure of staying ahead of nearest rivals Bishops who host Rondebosch.…

Bishops beat SACS 22-20 to maintain their 100% record in the always competitive Southern Suburbs derbies. They host St Andrew’s College in an annual interschools next weekend and the week after that it’s a potential “title” decider against Wynberg who are still hot on their heels.…

Ironically Paarl Boys’ High has lost an under-17 centre and gained one within in a short space of time.…

Paarl Gymnasium’s Director of Rugby slash Head Coach Pieter Rossouw is back in Japan helping out Jimmy Stonehouse’s Toshiba Brave Lupus once again and it looks like he will be in the Land of the Rising Sun for quite a while this time around.…

Bishops, Rondebosch and SACS have everything to play for as the Cape Town Southern Suburbs season winds down to an exciting climax over the next three weekends. This Saturday a “title” contending elimination match of sorts takes place on the Memorial “A” where hosts SACS and Bishops will battle it out for the right to remain masters of their own destiny by staying in touch with “leaders”Rondebosch, UNLESS underdogs Wynberg have something else to say about in all starting with their visit to Bosch.

With 10 minutes to go Bishops lead Rondebosch 19-15. Bosch then scored three unanswered tries to record a come from behind 32-19 win and with it take the lead in the Southern Suburbs. A lead which would have belonged to Bishops had they held on for the win. SACS recorded their first S/S derby win of the season,  a comfortable enough 37-20 victory against Wynberg and by doing so they moved up to second place. (SACS-Wynberg match report lower down)

SACS, the Southern Suburbs “champions” for the last couple of seasons are enjoying another very successful season, which includes an unprecedented two victories against Winelands teams. On it’s own, those two wins translate to a remarkable achievement for just about any school anywhere in SA (outside the Winelands of course).…
