Wynberg Boys High School have gone from woodenspoon holders in 2017 to 2018 champs in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. This season seemed extra competitive with an average of only 8.3 points per game separating the winners from the losers over the very exciting 12 match derby series.

Congrats to Wynberg for winning the Southern Suburbs Crown! I think on balance they were the best team in the S Suburbs, and also the only team to have beaten one of the ‘big four’ Northern schools (Landbou). It’s been a few years in the doldrums for them now, so good on them for picking it up this year!
I do think, however, that the Southern Suburbs this year was very competitive and some results could’ve gone either way. I don’t think there was much to choose between Berg, Bishops and Bosch, and even SACS could’ve picked up a win or two this year. It makes it all the more interesting to watch!
Best of luck to all schools in 2019…and final words to Berg: we’re coming back for our crown next year! :P
