Wesgrow Sentrale Skole Sportreeks 2026 Delivers a Five-Team Title Race

The Kovsies Liga may have disappeared from the calendar after 2025, but the Wesgrow Sentrale Skole Sportreeks has stepped into the spotlight in spectacular fashion.

The 2026 edition has been nothing short of sensational. Arguably the most competitive U19A competition since the series was launched, it has produced a genuine title race that is set to go down to the wire.

With just two rounds remaining, a mere five points separate leaders Trio from fifth-placed Fichardtpark. In reality, that means all five contenders remain mathematically alive in the race for the crown.

Defending champions Diamantveld, who lifted the trophy last year and began the season as favourites, have surprisingly stumbled twice already. Even so, they arguably have the most favourable finish, with fixtures against Goudveld and Witteberg still to come.

Two-time champions Fichardtpark, winners in 2023 and 2024, face those same opponents in reverse order and will believe they have every chance of forcing their way back into contention.

The road is considerably tougher for fellow Bloemfontein outfit Jim Fouché. Sitting fourth on the log, they first travel to 2019 champions Bethlehem Voortrekker before hosting what could prove to be the title decider against current leaders Trio.

For Trio, the equation is simple—they control their own destiny.

Formed through the merger of Kroonstad’s Blouskool and Rooiskool in 2021, the league leaders are just two victories away from a memorable title. Yet they also face the sternest test of any contender.

Their next assignment is a home clash against the competition’s surprise package, Sentraal. The young Tralies side has exceeded expectations this season, signalling a welcome revival of a rugby programme that had lost momentum in recent years.

Victory in Kroonstad would leave Trio one step away from the championship. Slip up, however, and the door swings wide open for the chasing pack.

If the season has delivered anything, it is unpredictability. And with five teams still dreaming of lifting the trophy, the final fortnight promises to be a fitting climax to one of the finest editions of the Wesgrow Sentrale Skole Sportreeks yet.
