Wynberg edge ahead of Bishops in the Southern Suburbs

Things couldn’t be tighter in Cape Town. The four Southern Suburbs derbies played during August have produced an average winning margin of less than 3 points per game. Wynberg edged out Bishops 22-20 and now have their destiny in their own hands but they will have to win on the road at SACS to be sure of staying ahead of nearest rivals Bishops who host Rondebosch.

    Full time: Bishops 10-10 Rondebosch

Still reeling from this as Bosch denied a clear penalty try at the death that would’ve won it. So just like the first game, in my view, Bosch were robbed.

Congrats to Wynberg on winning the Southern Suburbs crown this year. But we’re coming to reclaim it in 2019 ;)

@Toffee: I’ll put my empty bank account on the line and say The Berg will beat SACS and Bosch will triumph over Bishops.

My reason:Wynberg have been the most consistent SSburb side and Bosch the most improved. While Bishops had a brilliant start, they look like they’re looking forward to the cricket season. Then again, on their day they’ll run you all over.

@Toffee: Hey Toffee. I’m expecting a good analysis from you after the SACS/Berg game, as I’ll be watching the Bosch game on TV ;)

I think Wynberg should beat SACS fairly comfortably in the end. I don’t think their confidence will be high after the game against Bosch and losing to 14 men/blowing a 7-24 point lead. That being said, SACS can be competitive on the day, and did really well against Bishops early in the year at the Piley and this term too. Its a derby and anything can happen, but I’ll be very surprised if you guys don’t win.

I also think Bosch are going to beat Bishops. I agree with you that Bosch have been unlucky in some games; we almost beat Berg until a last minute try, and were incredibly unlucky to lose to Bishops last term, who were helped by some dubious referee calls (my biased opinion, of course). We do blow a bit hot-and-cold though, as shown by our victory against Drotsdy and implosion against Stellenberg. I do think that we’ll be high on confidence after our comeback against SACS and if we play to our full potential, I think we can beat Bishops.

It’s going to be a great day of derby rugby, and good luck against SACS!

I will be at the SACS/Wynberg game. These games are so hard to call. SACS have nothing to lose and after a disappointing season, winning this one would make up for a lot of that. Hopefully Wynberg are hungry and confident enough to pull it off.

At the same time I have a sneaky suspicion Bosch are going to beat Bishops. Bosch have been improving and have been unlucky in some of the previous matches to lose close games. Playing with 14 men for most of the game against SACS, they still won. I pick Wynberg and Bosch to win.
