@star (Comment #33) Our biggest loss in history to a KZN opponent, but that was expected. No rugby in 6 weeks for most of the team whilst Northwood had a contingent at Craven Week keeping in shape and game ready. The 1st half was close but then Northwood’s superior conditioning & match fitness kicked in. Poor coaching from Glenwood. Silly to have Old Boys Day this time of the year. BUT there is a plan and it’s in motion, OBs are gathering around the world, I already have over 40x OBs in the UK on a chat group, we have all bought Old Boys rugby jerseys and many will be contributing soon. The juniors did much better. It’s very difficult to sustain these professional programs, Glenwood knows, 15 years straight. DHS, Westville and Northwood will eventually hit a wall too. I heard a WOB just dropped R2m to buy a house near the school to create more BE space, you just need to find a few OBs like that. What was most pleasing was the amazing feedback from Jamie Wimble’s dad around the Glenwood boys ‘gees’ & manners, he was impressed. The school is doing well considering the circumstances and we will always unearth sporting talent from the less affluent areas, that has been our forte since we were founded 116 years ago today. Ek dink nie die bedoeling is om die uitslag te regverdig of te verduidelik nie; ek dink dis meer om konteks te gee en die ouens wat wel gespeel het ‘n klop op die skouer te gee. Bv. Dan Whitehead moes nou al ‘n paar keer speel weens Pheiffer se onbeskikbaarheid (weens harsingskudding en besering) en het nog nooit in ‘n eerstespantrui verloor nie, Tom Cruikshank het sy buiging vir die eerstespan Saterdag op 12 gemaak en heel goed vertoon teen twee WP senters, dit was Riley Combrinck op regtervleuel se eerste wedstryd sedert die Affies wedstryd, Lehan Barnard wat heeljaar haker speel moes weer diens op vaskop doen en Brandon Hamman het slegs vir die tweede keer van die bank af gekom en die wendrie gedruk. Dis ‘n groot pluimpie vir hierdie manne dat hulle kon step-up teen ‘n begeesterde en talentvolle SACS-span en steeds die wa deur die drif trek.

De Bruin het ‘n besering gedra van voor die wedstryd af en kon dus net van die bank af speel; Pheiffer het gelyk asof hy in die wedstryd ‘n besering opgedoen het.

Ek verstaan nie hoekom PRG ondersteuners voel hulle moet n verloor, en selfs n wen, soos in hierdie geval, verduidelik nie. Of dat ander verwag hulle moet dit verduidelik nie.
Hoekom het Pfeiffer en de Bruyn slegs een helfde gespeel die naweek?

A young Boys High Team, who were dominant for the bulk of the game, couldn’t find a way to finish it off. This young boys high team, loaded with talent but lacking in self belief, will be back to settle many scores next year. I look forward to their continued growth and I have no doubt the addition of some truly talented u16’s will showcase some open, running rugby next year.

KES v Jeppe game 2 gonna be a good one (again). Both sharp and fresh.
I traded the big circuit schoolboy rugby this week for a trip to Robertson to watch HS Robertson vs HS Stellenbosch. Let me tell you: HS Robertson’s backline is properly cooking. The two standouts for me were Dihego “Sinker” Braaf at 9 (played 21 for Boland at Craven Week and Juwayden van Niekerk at 10 (Boland’s 10 at Craven Week). Juwayden’s brother also had a great game at 12. But, man, Braaf at 9 can play. I watched him throughout Craven Week: I thought he was excellent and changed the game every time he came on for Boland, but he was even better on Saturday. If any union’s prepared to take a chance on a relatively unknown player outside the “big” schools, they’re gonna pick up a hell of a player for a steal there. Van Niekerk at 10 looks and plays very similar to Jeandré Uithaler who played for Noordheuwel (and SA A) in 2025, except he might be even slightly quicker. Robertson completely tore Stellenbosch apart, scoring multiple 80m+ counterattacking tries. Looking forward to their interschools later this year vs Charlie Hofmeyr!

SACS was tops – beste game van hulle sover hierdie jaar. Dit is ook nie ‘n palooka-span daai nie: klomp WP verteenwoordigers met nóg ouens wat laasjaar WP Grant Khomo gespeel het. Hulle behoort ‘n behoorlike span volgende jaar te hê. Ek dink dit was ‘n belangrike wen vir PRG na die Gim wedstryd einde laas kwartaal en, soos jy sê, sonder Steyn (WP vaskop), Armitage (Akademieweek skrumskakel), Nel (WP XV binnesenter), Basson (SA Skole buitesenter), en met beide Pheiffer (SA Skole losskakel) en De Bruin (SA A slot/agsteman) wat elkeen net ‘n helfte kon speel.
SACS was uitstekend. Paul Roos was sonder talle gereelde spelers. Ses drieë teenoor drie dui seker darem nie daarop dat jy gelukkig was om te wen nie. ‘n Span se vermoë om wedstryde soos hierdie te wen is altyd ‘n aanduiding van ‘n goeie span.
Jake Dave is a proper rugby player. I also rate Landbou’s 9 very highly, although not a fan of his name on a Sunday morning :D

While I have a foot either side of Marianhill these days, unfortunately (for me) neither institution can be blamed for my poor arithmetic!

Either way it’s so good to see so many of our boys still choosing rugby, for 2 schools to be able to put out 27 teams. Would think that number is similar or bigger in many of the Western Cape fixtures involving the big Afrikaans schools and the PRG/Grey fixture. Long may it continue!

Feel I’ve done my duty to peaceful world coexistence by watching all that football, only nodded off twice in the final, once in each half, then was scrolling on FB when the winning goal was scored. Still, fairly entertaining. I thought Austria definitely had the nicest jerseys (red with black sleeves, vivid eagle logo) followed by the France pale trace mint 2nd kit. Kaya was rooting for Cabo Verde and DR Congo, my chinas, which reminds me of Wilgerivier in schools rugby 2026. Predictions by Thursday.
Greetings gentlemen. Kaya is back in his post, this year gave GK and Craven week a total miss in favour of world cup soccer and Wimbledon. And although I watched the Bok games, Kaya will not be watching the All Blacks series because I prefer watching without emotion as a neutral. I note with interest that Grey College are playing the famous Harrow School, should be good. I wonder if Rugby School toured here. Imagine playing rugby against Rugby, wouldn’t that be something?
