It looks like it might be a case of out of the frying pan, into the fire for San Isidro, the touring club from Argentina. Last Thursday they took on Paul Roos and this Friday they’ll pit their talents against Paarl Boys High (HJS). One thing is for sure, San Isidro will return to South America with the proud knowledge that they took on a couple of the best that South Africa has to offer.…
A rugby coaching transformation took place at Paarl Boys’ High School – Hoër Jongenskool Paarl (HJS) at the start of this year. The good news is that Sean Erasmus, new man in charge of rugby affairs at the school has already formed a productive working relationship with well-respected coach Elmo Wolfaardt. Sean has taken charge of the forwards, while Elmo is responsible for the backs. It’s just what the doctor ordered because Boishaai has an extra busy season ahead of them. The reason being they have accepted the challenge to represent South Africa at the annual Sanix (under-18) World Youth Tournament in Japan from 26 April to 07 May 2014.…

As many of you who follow the Blog already know, former Springbok Pieter Rossouw with the sponsorship backing of Barloworld has been trying to get a new Noord-Suid tournament organised.
In an idea world if this tournament consisted of just the top six schools it would have seen the best that Pretoria has to offer namely Affies, Waterkloof and right here right now Garsfontein come up against the top feeder schools of the WPRU, which would definitely be Paarl Gim, Paarl Boys High and Paul Roos.…
A final decision regarding Grey Bloem playing Paarl Gim at Wildeklawer Skouspel 2014 will be made any day now.
This is a game that every Grey and Gimmies student, parent and old boy wants to see happen but as always these kind of outcomes are not majority vote decisions and so it will be up to a few school officials in positions of authority to have final say on the matter.…

The Western Province Rugby Institute (WPRI) recently held an opening function to welcome this year’s batch of aspiring professionals to their world class facility in Stellenbosch. Judging by the talent they managed to secure, there is every chance that a WP under-19 team coming out of this group could contain as much skill and potential as the successful WP under-19 team of 2010.…
A good way to describe Paul Roos supporters ahead of the 2014 season is quietly confident. No one is under any kind of illusion either. Annually Paul Roos has one of the most demanding school rugby schedules in the country which affords them little room for comfort. That said there is a reason why they are labelled as one of South African school rugby’s powerhouse teams. …

Amongst the interesting bits of info is this performance table that ignores the variable of relative strength and simply focuses on schools records in an effort to determine who the best achieving teams of 2013 in the Province are.…
Two tries by centre Hennie Barnard in difficult weather conditions helped Outeniqua to a 18-6 win against Marlow and a place in the Burger Trophy final. Their likely opponents are Paarl Gymnasium, who are overwhelming favorites to get past Drostdy of Boland in the other semi.…
Many in the Paul Roos family are still hurting after Saturday’s all-important 1st team rugby match against Grey College. Paul Roos prides itself on being a top rugby school and this season has been particularly difficult for them. However their overall sports results against Grey College is still something for the home faithful to smile about. Even in rugby, PRG showed their depth and came out on top on aggregate. Well I asked BHP to run the numbers regarding whether Paarl Gim could overtake Affies on the BHP SA Top 50 rankings (the formula driven ranking system). In a nutshell the answer is NO!
