According to a report in Netwerk24 (link) two promising schoolboy rugby players that joined Welkom Gymnasium from Hennie Cilliers in Virginia this year are not allowed to play rugby for any school except the Virginia Sports Academy (Hentie Cilliers) until a dispute that has arisen over their respective contracts with the Academy are laid to rest. The Welkom magistrate has enforced this until the charges for breach of contract is resolved by arbitration on 19 March. The boys are from George and Port Elizabeth and the report mentions that the academy had already spent a large sum of money on them.…

Grey College and Maritzburg College have restored annual interschools ties after five seasons of inactivity. Their match will be broadcast on DSTV Supersport at 14h00 on Saturday, 16 August 2014.
Prior to 1997, the two schools met a handful of times over the years with the first meeting taking place way back in 1940. Then from 1997 for 12 consecutive seasons Grey against Maritzburg College was an annual fixture.…
Big news doing the rounds is that Grey College fullback Henry Immelman has been included in the Free State Currie Cup 2014 training squad. At this stage it’s unclear whether this is a genuine call-up or just some sort of I don’t know marketing or incentive ploy that rugby unions like to make use of from time to time.
