In an effort to ensure that Grey College is part of their annual sports day featuring many of the Central region’s top rugby school, the organisers at Fichardtpark have asked Grey to play their internal trial match at the event.
Grey in striving to achieve a good summer versus winter sports balance for the benefit of their all-round sportsmen, has given summer sports preference until the end of February. This means rugby trials that possibly would have taken place earlier in past years, will now only be held on 07 March.
For all those supporters at Fichardtpark this Saturday, as part of what promises to be an entertaining day of proper schoolboy rugby matches, they will also be able to witness something unique as the boys in Blue go up against each other.
Every year without fail Grey has set the school rugby bar very high. Therefore people from around the country have naturally come to expect top quality rugby from them. This year the preseason feeling is that although this 2015 team will not disappoint, it probably won’t be remembered as one of the truly “Greyt” teams that the school has produced. They have a strong 2014 under-16 group coming up to bolster their matric group who also fared well at under-16 level. An interest aspect will be the Grey College pack. Usually Grey relies on smaller forwards which include very fit, mobile and skillful locks playing like two extra flanks and allowing for a high tempo game plan to be successfully executed. Well this season surprise, surprise, Grey is expecting to field a fairly large pack of forwards. Maybe not as big as a few of those from Noordvaal schools tipped to do well this season, but definitely above average size by Grey’s own standards.

@BOG: The only sure winner on the day will be Grey Bloem. Not sure if special rules and subs will apply, but the idea of a trials game at another school will lift the competitiveness of both teams.
And who am I now to argue with an impartial, objective, knowledgeable and obviously, very intelligent person?
Sa number 1 team playing Sa number 2 team? Could be…
