The SchoolboyRugby Blog had the honour of Stefan Terblanche doing some free publicity work for the website via twitter recent. But before anyone gets overexcited that Stefan’s now taking a greater interest in school rugby its worth mentioning that he is hosting a Gala Debate Evening at Maritzburg College on 01 October, so his tweets are probably just amounted to a bit of self-promotion more than anything else (not that I’m unhappy about it )
Here is a link to the event pamphlet (click here)
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both Stefan and Jacques Botes at a KZN Craven Week function a few years ago. Both are super guys. The Craven Week youngsters really looked up to them and listened carefully to the meaningful advice they had to pass on. They were also very witty so it was very entertaining session.
With Jacques Botes set to take over in the role of recruiter for the Sharks once he retires from pro rugby later this year, it’s a great opportunity for those in attendance to get to hear his thoughts on the issues surrounding school rugby. He will play a hands on role in SBR from next season and I’m sure he’s been doing his homework.
Getting the truth out of rugby union aligned ex-players turned employees might not be that easy though. The rugby union has a set of objectives totally different from those of most schools. For the RU a win at all costs ethos prevails. At pro level rugby has to take first place above all else on the work priority list. Recruiting the best available players at all levels is a key objective. For the many junior players that start off on the road to the top, something resembling a dog eat dog culture exists. For every one player that eventually makes it, there are probably 20 or more other hopefuls fall by the wayside. More than anything else, rugby unions would love schools to buy into their way of thinking and doing business, as this would make their work a lot easier.
So if Kings Park and the Sharks Academy starts sounding like utopia along the way, people in attendance be warned, the guests have probably veered off the truth and reality path a bit, turning a debate evening into more of a marketing pitch. This is not to say that Kings Park and the Sharks Academy isn’t good places.
The best thing College folks could get out of this evening is the no holds barred truth. For that to happen it might require Botes and/or Terblanche to be the bad guys. I’m not sure either one of them are prepared to take on that role.
Butch James will also be there. In his short, soon to end time of working as the Sharks recruiter, he hasn’t exactly impressed and the opinions of him amongst experienced people in the industry have been pretty adverse to say the least. Quite a few actually share the view that he only got the job in the first place because he’s mates with Sharks CEO John Smit. So here’s a chance for Butch to shine. He’s got absolutely nothing to lose! Some refreshing honesty about his experience this season could really light things up and set up a memorable great debate.
The topics for discussion again:
1. The current state of school rugby competitiveness, old vs new coaching and training approaches
2. Bursaries, recruitment, the involvement of Rugby Unions in getting players to certain schools.
3. Professional sports – pros vs cons
4. Performance enhancing products at school level
5. The importance of school sports – is it still serving the right purpose?
6. Do we put too much emphasis on results at school level?
DHS at 17, based on the past maybe. Rubbish list…
@Roger: Alexandra High School at 45. So much for this list…
http://buzzsouthafrica.com/secondary-schools-africa/
List incorrect – 1 and 3 should be swapped!
yip not there

need to say , he isn’t the most loyal, this youtube and there is a number 2 as well , wasn’t a particular fan of his, didn’t think such a great rugby player, agree not the type you want your son to be mates with or your daughter to be with, for sure, as for a polo player, he just happened to be slightly bigger than most at school, played hole man, but don’t think you will see him after school to be honest and has been out fo school, going into 3rd year next year , hear he is a car salesman , go figure
@Grasshopper: I’ll be on the look-out.
@Playa: you might see his name in future SA mens waterpolo teams though…
@Gungets Tuft: Guess forgetting his name is not a bad thing hey
It’s listed above, from College but not Staples….I would have just kept my mouth shut….
@Playa: Name escapes me …
@Grasshopper: @Gungets Tuft: Who’s the kid, may I ask?
@Grasshopper: I am amazed that he is willing to write off 4 years of his school life like that. What does he say to all the guys that he played sport with at College .. he must stay in touch with them surely. Hey, it’s his door … he can slam that behind him if he likes.
@Gungets Tuft: I was shocked when I saw it, honestly not trying to stir. Just thought weird….
@Grasshopper: Thrilled for him, looks like it was a win all round then. I hope that the Glenwood boys all trust him for continued loyalty. Not exactly the kind of chap I would employ …. Or allow my daughter to date, or like my son to be mates with.
I will be sure to send the link on though, I’m sure there are many that will learn something from it.
@Grasshopper: Funny … Another ex College boy said the same thing to me before he left for the UK. He was super impressed with the rugby program at GW.
……
Kyle Westman (Maritzburg College)
Johan King (Jan Van Riebeeck, although short-lived)
For Gungets, watch at 5mins36…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdzsW_cUbr4
I thought I might start a list of recruited players at Glenwood since 2012. Those recruited after grade 8 only. Fellow bloggers please add, correct etc;
Marne Coetzee (Waterkloof)
Michael Van Aardt
Warren Potgieter
James Venter
MacMillian Muller
Curtis Jonas
Koos Tredoux (Waterkloof)
Ntokozo Vidima (KZN Development)
Christopher Klopper
Brandon Staples (Maritzburg College)
Peter-John Kobbie
Ruan Desmore
Jerome Bossr (Selborne)
Joseph Potgieter
Matthew Harmsworth (Fishhoek)
………..?
@Grasshopper: The father’s own words apparently
@QC86: are these facts?
@Grasshopper: and sorry his dad can fly around the country courtesy of the GW fee payers.
@Grasshopper: Now he gets a whole lot more pocket money ,jees you can be slow some days.
@LineBreak: Did some research on the kid, quite a sportsman! Obviously a massive gain, but why would he give up a Jacques Kallis bursary?
@LineBreak: Yep, still not sure why he was required….maybe another side to the story….Bader by far…
@Grasshopper: No not only cricket .. he’s a great rugby player too but is a 10.
I have heard good things about Coetzee the KZN GK 10 also, so they will be be pushing eachother for that 2016 CW jersey. (One can’t imagine either would leapfrog Bader for 2015)
@LineBreak: yep, agreed. Not sure why we needed another cricketer, we had enough…..greed maybe….
@Grasshopper: Seriously impressive list there!
It seems the Selborne import was worth every cent but has sadly not only taken a GW boy’s place in the team but now also two places in the KZN U17 & U19 cricket teams after being in KZN for a few months. Not right
@star: Tell me, what should Glenwood say to selections. Sorry, we don’t deserve these selections, please drop our boys and replace them with better Westville players?
@star: boet, I’m not a selector so can’t change that. I somehow can’t believe it’s a conspiracy theory in all sports….impossible to manipulate selections in all sports.
Here is the list of Glenwood ‘all-round’ extra curricular achievers, pretty impressive for a poor school down in the docks, known as Scumbilo High to some; http://www.glenwoodhighschool.co.za/sites/default/files/2014%20Special%20Assembly%20Programme.pdf
@ Grassy- did you notice that 2 GW boys ( Bossr and Cele) have been selected for both the U17 and U19 teams. Bossr is also an U16 boy. I also can’t believe that one age group has 8 players from one school. I would not mind if that team had dominated through the age groups or now at open level is achieving the expected results but is has not. GW lost recently to MHS who not even top 2 in the Midlands( KZN- Inland). I won’t bring up the KES result I believe that the side was picked on Saturday morning before a single ball was bowled in the trials. I have already blogged that Westville beat GW in all the A team hockey games and both the Ist and U16A ended up rated among the top teams in the country and yet they did not have the most coastal reps . Not even second. It is not only in rugby that selections are a dog and pony show and why GW receive the response they do. If you want to push boundaries at every possible turn then be man enough to accept what will get thrown back at you.
@Vin: Boys are boys, it shouldn’t happen but it does in heated games. I got punched many times on the rugga field and in the pool. There will be punishment handed down…TK & Pinheiro are disciplinarians…
@Grasshopper: I can assure you that’s exactly what it was I was there – 20m away. Everybody including the boys brother and father who were sitting 3 people away saw it and weren’t happy.
Ah, not playing each other? Not that I am aware. Glenwood play them is some sports, like tennis, 7’s, hockey, swimming….but not rugby…
http://www.glenwoodhighschool.co.za/clifton-college-donate-book-glenwoods-media-centre
@Roger: Huh? Outers?
@Grasshopper: ok – so are Clifton and Glenwood on the outers too?
@Roger: As I said, Steve La Marque will sort it if that was the case, simples.
@Grasshopper: I made no mention of ill discipline – just said I hope Glenwood took action. I don’t care how rough the sport is – a blatant punch to the face (if it was that) is not on.
Michaelhouse, Northwood, Kloof & St Charles are four other KZN schools usually good at polo not at Clifton…..
@Vin: OK, no worries…
@Grasshopper: would rather not say. It was a punch to the face – which doesn’t happen all the time. Who said GW are ill disciplined???
@Roger: waterpolo is a rough sport, lots happens under the water too. The boy should be suspended for a few games if it was a blatant punch, but this could happen anywhere…..don’t come and make up the Glenwood boys are ill disciplined. Steve La Marque is a great coach and wouldn’t accept that sort of behaviour. TK certainly wouldn’t grovel at Lovetts feet, he is just not that sort of bloke. Autocrats don’t do that…
@Vin: Guy Mottram or Craig Roy?
@Roger: We did reply boet, quite a few other KZN schools are not at the Clifton tourno too. The Clifton Head taught at Glenwood to close on 20 years before going there, he was also the Glenwood 1st team rugga coach for about 5 years. There are other reasons for this.
@Vin: I would be pretty upset if it was my son too – I hope Glenwood took action
@Vin: I asked why Glenwood were not invited to the Clifton tourno on this blog as it seemed they were the only KZN school not there – the Greenies were non-committal though.
I’m glad the KES-SACS issue is resolved as well….
well – TK and La Marque cant be too surprised surely- it’s like being invited to a party and pinching your hosts IPad – it’s just not cricket old chap
@Grasshopper: Very funny that the KES youngster that was punched by the big GW No2, his dad is a GW old boy who was a provincial polo player – he wasn’t a happy chap.
@Roger: Funny you say that spoke to Steve La Marque(head of GW polo and GM of SA polo) at the tournament he is desperate to get an invite to the KES polo tournament. He had a meeting with Lovatt at the beginning of the year and TK has been trying to convince Lovatt to no avail. As I understand it Cliffton won’t invite GW to their tournament either. So they only attend THE SACS tournament which we should be attending again soon.
@Grasshopper: Fair game – I agree – although I am sure you will agree that it leaves a rather bad taste when you recruit from your hosts at a festival your were invited to.
As I say – don’t think there will be many invites extended Glenwood’s way going forward….
It’s fair game at grade 7, always has been…
@Roger: Yeah and KES don’t give bursaries to grade 7’s at all…..?
@Vin: they obviously did all their shopping at that Jeppe u14 tourno last year – can’t see them being invited back to any JHB festivals in a hurry – once bitten twice shy
@Roger: I was speaking to another boy’s father, his son was going to Jeppe but was offered a scholarship to GW and is there now. Mom now lives in Durban (boy in boarding) and father commutes. so of the starting 7 boys 4 that I know of went to primary school and some high school in JHB.
@Gungets Tuft: Correct both him and his brother are in boarding.
@Vin: obviously talent in Durban is few and far between
wonder if the old man works for Grindrod
@Vin: And despite the family relocating to Durban the boy is in the Boarding Establishment – yes?
@Playa: I’m starting to
@Vin: Does no one believe in coincidence anymore?
@Roger: The one boy accepted a scholarship to KES and turned Glenwood down. Then miraculously his dad was offered a job transfer to Durban….go figure. And that is not hear say he was my boys U14 captain at Gauteng and school.
@Vin: so two approached in Grade 7 at KEPS and one in grade 9 at KES and the elder brother went as well.
One wonders how Glenwood find these guys and what they offer – its not as if the school is around the corner?
I was told they were all approached after the Jeppe tourno last year
@Roger: No, Connor was approached in grade 7 for Rugby, Tiago last year in grade 7(he was the boy they approached after Jeppe tournament) but his brother is U16 and and the 3rd U16 started this year I don’t know if he is on a scholarship.
KZN Schools cricket sides, must exclude the Midlands…plenty of Glenwood reps there; http://dolphinscricket.co.za/?p=1061
@Vin: were the KES boys in the Glenwood side the chaps who were approached after the Jeppe U14 waterpolo festival last year?
@Vin: Yep, and the Glenwood Under15’s are our strongest age group, I think coming 3rd at the Wynberg festival…http://www.glenwoodhighschool.co.za/polo-tour-western-cape-2014
The 1st team only has one grade 12 boy. Will be interesting in the next couple of years if Glenwood play KES.
@Grasshopper: Morning, I know I was at the game my boy played in the U16 Tournament. KES lost 5-2 we had 3 U14 boys playing and 8 U15 boys our U16 age group is very weak. 3 of the boys in the GW side were KES boys we also lost 1 to St John’s and 2 to Bennies. So had to send a development side, but that being said the boys did well. GW number 5 is brilliant pity about the GW number 2 punching one of the young boys and being red carded, left a bad taste.
Hey no excuses the better side on the day won, but comforting to know that the whole KES team will be back next year and some the year after.

Glenwood beats KES in 7th/8th playoff at the under16 DHS waterpolo tourno ;-)
http://ysn.co.za/tournaments/water-polo/2014/dhs-u16-water-polo-tournament-2014
@Grasshopper: Who would you drop to accomodate him. See how that guy performed and see the effect on the side. You might just be surprised to see how the second stringers stand up and make it count. Remember that the one guy needs to disappear from all the matches, so no lemon-cherry picking allowed.
@Roger: Yep, which I gave credit to KES for, takes huge guts to grind out 3 close victories like that in a week. The boys must have good heads on their shoulders. My real point was that it would have been nice to see both teams at full strength, KES with Roelofsen and Glenwood with Andile P.
@Grasshopper: all righty then – I see the connection
But you still lost the cricket match – right
@Roger: You were saying Glenwood’s report was unbalanced, I then asked if you though KES’s twitter handle drivel was balanced….greatest, best are just two adjective’s used….and I’m not following them anymore…
how did we go from a cricket result to a twitter handle?
you take your Concerta today Hopper
@Vin: yes Vin, I’m not bothered if you use my name….
@Grasshopper: Now, now #### let’s not go there.
@Roger: oh yes like your ‘balanced’ Twitter handle……hahaha! What a laugh!
Yawn
Check the KES website for a balanced report.
All you will find is results – no remarks column.
A balanced report
@Gungets Tuft: I know it’s a national joke with Glenwood competitors about the ‘Academy of Excellence’, it’s just a name for a structured programme that virtually all schools have in place now. Andile is a one in a kind sort of sportsman, an Errol Stewart, Herschelle Gibbs, Jonty Rhodes type of sportsman……SA Schools cricket & hockey is rare. Greg Nicol was the last at Glenwood to get close to that, he was picked for both but had to choose one, hockey. Tristan Tedder is another like him, maybe not at the same level though. Andile will be the winner of the Derek La Marque Glenwood Sportsman of the year edging out Jaco Coetzee who was SA Schools rugby captain. Anyway, point made…..he was missed at Michaelmas…..man amongst boys, like Roelofsen…
Try and replace this easily;

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/540316.html
Bowling style Right-arm fast…..
@Grasshopper: Pretty sure that Jesse was injury free the whole season, it was Dan that was hurt. It was also a very, very good KES team that included Marx and others, so we are certainly not claiming that Dan was all the difference.
I am surprised that your Academy of Excellence couldn’t deliver a suitable replacement …
@Gungets Tuft: my point was with Andile those tight games might have been easier, like College losing Jesse Kriel in the game vs KES 2 years ago. Losing one quality player at school level can change a result….
@Grasshopper: One man’s squeaky tight is another man’s “snatching from the fire”. I guess I just don’t get nuance ….
@Gungets Tuft: I know where you going with that ;-)….squeaky tight! That said, wins over PBHS, Waterkloof, St Johns & Hudson Park in a week isn’t too bad..
@Grasshopper: How would you categorize the Glenwood vs PBHS match?
@Roger: Yes Roger, gloat whilst you can. Well done to KES, pulling 3 very close games from the fire. Not much of a difference in the sides really. Glenwood defeated Waterkloof the week earlier. On the day, KES was better and Roelofsen showed his class, surprised he isn’t playing franchise cricket too.
@Woltrui: Boet, you obviously underestimating how good Andile is, he is outstanding and can make a massive difference to a result. In fact, he has taken a couple of 10 for’s…..but you right no excuses and no comments column….

@Roger: 6
th
of October v KES at Collegians CC (Michaelmas Week):
Glenwood posted a competitive 236 for 8 on a hot day at the Collegians
ground . An outstanding effort considering they we
re 30 for 4 earlier on in the
innings . Once again Mickey Hay shone with an outstanding 63 .Matthew
Kirkham showed his hitting power with a quick fire 52 off 34 balls and Jerome
Bossr underlined his growing potential with a patient 48 . KES batted very wel
l
to chase the total down . A few questionable umpiring decisions definitely
aided them but all in all a good game of cricket . Mickey Hay shining with the
ball as well capturing 4 for 28 . KES winning by 4 wickets in
@Vleis: KES is 1100 give or take a few
Dean Laing – now there’s a blast from the past. Quickest schoolboy bowler I faced – and when he played for TVL he was 2nd change who could bat a bit
@Gungets Tuft: those pesky umpires – just cannot be relied upon
@Roger: As far as I am aware, the figures are as follows:
– St Alban’s varies between 500 to 550
– Saints varies between 780 and 820 per their Admissions office
– St John’s varies between 750 and 800 per a mate who has a kid there
– KES has some 1,200 per mates who have kids there
– Jeppe has some 1,000 per Dean Laing
– Parktown has 800 to 900 per websites
– Randpark has over 1,600 pupils (i.e. over 800 boys) per their website, while other big co-ed schools are close to this size – e.g. Sutherland, Fourways, etc.
– St David’s has a similar amount to St Alban’s, while I believe that St Benedict’s is a bit bigger – i.e. 600.
@Roger: Hahhahhaa … definitely worth a read. Completely coincidental that their only loss was due to questionable umpiring, not due to Grant Roelofsen 94 not out. The wins were umpired just fine apparently.
@Vleis: I thought Saints were closer to0 1000 boys – I hear there are close to 3000 pupils on that campus.
@Woltrui: read the match report on Glenwood’s website – some Monday morning humor for you
@Roger: Apart from House and Hilton, most of the other private boys’ schools are similarly priced. Note that the 2014 fees are quoted for some schools (e.g. Bishops, Saints, etc), while the 2015 fees are quoted for others (e.g. St John’s, St Alban’s, etc). Applying an 8% – 9% fee increase to the former, yields similar totals to the latter.
St Alban’s has about 520 boys, while St John’s has about 760 and Saints about 800.
@Grasshopper: Cmonn Hopper. Glenwood lost. Good teams don’t rely on one player. Stop the excuses. Do you think all the other schools playing at the Michaelmas were at full strength? If KES batting is “weak”, what about Glenwoods batting? Glenwood did loose after all
@Roger: Andile P would have ravaged your weak batting…..
@Vleis: Well done St Albans
was surprised to see St Albans fees right up there with Hilton, Kearsney etc – how many pupils Vleis?
@Grasshopper: when if’s and but’s are candy and nuts …….. ah forget it
@Grasshopper: Hey grassy i would hate to burst your bubble but the Selbornians in your first cricket team should get some credit aswell.I hear Kapp has been sent back to Selborne after some harsh words between the headmasters.
Glenwood had good wins over PBHS & St Johns, seems people forgot those results. Lost to KES due to Roelofsen, without him KES were in trouble. If only Andile P was playing for Glenwood in the week, he alone turns a good Glenwood team into a great one…
@Gungets Tuft: Agreed. College will always have lots of depth due to the size of the school and, more importantly, the high quality students.
@Vleis: College has a very young team, grade 10, even a few grade 9. The team has been weakened by 2 kids leaving through emmigration with another on his way in December. They are a huge loss, not only for their cricket, hockey and rugby but as boys in general. It does make room for the school to show it’s depth, and College has lots of that.
@Woltrui: Yep and in particular the u16 age group seems to be very strong as a lot of 1st team runs are being made by grade 10 boys for Garsies, Menlo, Affies, St Albans, Saints, Maritzburg, Boys High, etc.
@Vleis: @Gungets Tuft: The Gauteng schoolboy cricket is currently in a league of its own. Apart from KES, St Albans and Affies who were unbeaten at the Michelmas week, St Stithians and Waterkloof dominated the Coke T20 by a long way. Centurion, Eldoraign, Garsfontien, PBHS, Jeppe and Parktown also have strong teams which make the “league” up north very competitive. This strong leaugue also go a long way to make the Noord Vaal cricket very interesting. Then off course we also got the Gun en Moore trophy (equivalent of the Beeld Rugby Trophy) for the traditional Co-Ed Schools. Schools like Nelspruit, Monnas, Jansies and MenloPark is always competitive in the Gun and Moore Trophy. Although I think Waterkloof has dominated the GM of late.
Hopper
good article in SA Sports about Andile Phehlukwayo headed “Old Enough good enough ”
If my memory serves me correct Andile took 10 wickets against Grosvenor about 4 years back – must be some kind of a record – I think Grosvenor were 10 or 11 all out
@Vleis: Correct, you can only play and beat the team in front of you.
There were a number of games scheduled as warmups for the festival, College were to play Paul Roos but PR pulled out.
@Gungets Tuft: You’re probably correct, although they did not have a say in the fixture list, so can’t be blamed for same. They also thumped House by 8 wickets in a T20 game on Friday (i.e. beat House twice), but perhaps that was not part of the festival?
@Vleis: 4 matches you mean?
To be a little critical St Albans did have the easiest ride at the Oppenheimer week with KZN Dev, St Charles and Northwood. House was a good win though.
@Roger: And a five to zip clean sweep over the Natal teams for St Alban’s too…plus Saints thrashed every team in the National T20 championships. Clearly our cricket is stronger than our rugby given the 2014 Grogper Cup results where the english Noordvaal teams took a pasting if memory serves.
@star: Ja – I didn’t make it to the op-skop but I’d be fascinated to see how it went down. On the recruitment side of things I’d love to hear from those who think that there is nothing wrong with recruiting at all levels – I’d love to hear how they justify it. I’ve tried to find out – but the answers I got were rather deflective. Hopefully both sides of the coin were presented and it didn’t become a dissing session. I trust not.
To get back to the original topic of discussion namely the ” great debate” has there been any summary/transcript or conclusions presented.
@Roger: Roelofsen scored 149 in the first innings of the first Youth Test against England U19 on the recent tour, while earlier this year hit 208 not out before lunch against Parktown and has plundered 1 410 runs so far, including six centuries and the double century. His 126 off 54 balls against Jeppe in a T20 fixture was also a highlight.
@Roger: *Glenwood High will have arguably the biggest star of the week in their squad, with captain Andile Phehlukwayo set to return from the Champions League T20 Tournament in India where he has been on duty for the Dolphins. Phehlukwayo scored 22 against the Chennai Super Kings before top scoring with 37 against the IPL champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders.
@Roger: Yep, same for your rugga sides
@Grasshopper: when ifs and buts are candy and nuts it will be Christmas all year round!
@Roger: Well done KES. Glenwood still beat St Johns and PBHS so not quite a clean sweep. Also, all of those wins were pretty close, not exactly beltings, Kearsney last ball, Glenwood 2 overs excluding argubly the best allrounder in school cricket at present, MHS today with an over…….but well played, Roelofsen the difference……going to be a good player that
@Grasshopper: Glenwood, DHS, Kearsney and Michaelhouse – a KZN clean sweep for KES. Well played fellas…….
Consolation is we beat KES 1-0 at the Grey Bloem soccer tournament.
KES win and well played Roelofsen, not out for 93 off 92, certainly man of the match.
11 off 24 needed, KES should win this now. Roelofsen on 91 off 88, the difference….
@Roger: I should have gone to the game, very tight affair. KES need 33 off 38, Roelofsen still in and 6 wkts done. I see Roelofsen being the difference. If only Glenwood could have had Andile P…
Glenwood have beaten PBHS & St Johns, so we need another Gauteng scalp…
A flyhalf like Carter, Pollard certainly isn’t that yet…
@Grasshopper: what is your sort of flyhalf?
Yes – I see KES has beaten both DHS and Kearsney at the Michelmas festival so we need Glenwood’s scalp to make it three from three.
@Roger: Around just busy with work. Pollard played very well, good on him. Not my sort of flyhalf, but what do I know. Vermeulen was a machine. I see Glenwood posted 236/8 vs KES after being 19/3. KES are doing well in reply at 53/1 with L Smith batting well. We are without Andile P though :-(
where is old Hopper – I wonder if he has revised his opinion on Pollard as yet? What a player – was he at Paul Roos?
@Gungets Tuft: I found the results on cricinfo, which confirmed the results. But GCB had gone on and lost to Waterkloof. But as long as it keeps Star quite for a while. But I need to be careful- the final result has not yet been determined. In the soccer, I see, GCB drew 1-1 with Glenwood.
And for results specific to to College Week – http://www.maritzburgcollege.org.za/sport/19-cricket/580-michaelmas-cricket-week-2014
@BOG: No worries. If it’s not there, then look at http://www.cricinfo.com, choose country South Africa, – all the Cricket SA T20 games are live scored and scorecards there. Michaelmas Week on Webcricket. My source tells me the Michaelmas week brochure is a thing of beauty, will have to see it is can be digitized.
Crickinfo has an App as well
@Gungets Tuft: Muinto obrigado !
@BOG: Not sure if those games are on this but try http://www.webcricket.co.za/summary
Im a bit far, but is there anyone who can help me with the cricket scores in Pretoria, GCB vs Wynberg, Westville and Kingswood? Someone has told me that GCB has won them all so far, but going by Stars comments earlier in the year, I cannot believe that. But if its true, I have suddenly become a strong supporter of the 20/20 version of the game
@Grasshopper: Sorry to hear that. I just don’t think they like the truth so they stick their head in the sand and hope it will go away. Unfortunately for them the rest are getting sick and tired of the same old and it needs to stop.
I have been a supporter of Glenwood and their style for a while now but when it comes to players of age playing against schoolboys,I draw the line.
Also the enhancement of the boys physique by unnatural substances must be stopped in its tracks. Ban a couple of boys for a year and see what effect it has. KES is a prime example- they were very good while the ‘stuff’ was flowing but as soon as a few got caught and were in serious trouble with the law, did they conform and as a result, so their form dipped.
There are still tickets available for the evening, R350 per head for dinner and the discussions with Stef, Butch, Jacques, Mark Steele (Sharks conditioning coach) Dr Kirsten van Heerden (performance and sports shrink), Darren Gallagher (College Old Boy, Springbok hockey player, currently coach of the SA U21 hockey side).
