lekker storie….the ranking the ranker is based upon “consensus”…..soos @Djou se ,dis 50/50 , die top 10 sal almal mee saamstem , maar hoe dieper ons in die watergat afgaan hoe vinniger word die water meer troebel,ek dink die voordeel van die stelsel is dat ‘n mens die verskillende rankers langs mekaar sien en jou eie “mind”opmaak oor wie meer reg of verkeerd is as ander rankers…lekker naweek vir almal

Looks pretty much the same! 23 of 50 positions has changed, mostly with one or two positions up or down. Here and there it was more than two positions. It is like Djou says, it is all consensus. Consensus of consensus.
Ek onthou ‘n storie van Fanus Rautenbach jare gelede. Hy het gesê as jy 99 swart albasters en een wittetjie in ‘n sakkie gooi en jy skommel hom, wat is jou kanse dat jy die wittetjie sal uittrek. Ons stats prof het ‘n groot oefening daarvan gemaak en gevra ons moet bereken wat is die waarskynlikheid dat jy die wittetjie met die eerste vat sal vat, en dan met die tweede een ens. ens. en met watter vat is jou waarskynlikheid die grootste, ens… Lang en baie somme wat ons moes maak oor die sakkie albasters. die volgende dag op Springbokradio vra Fanus toe weer die vraag oor die albastersakkie en wat is die kanse dat jy die wittetjie sal vat met die eerste vat. Hy sê toe die kanse is 50-50, jy het hom of jy het hom nie! Ek weet nie of iemand daai storie kan onthou nie.

The internationally accepted method is to throw away the highest and worst and then arrive at an average.
It normally does not make a big difference at the top, but provides a better indication from around 10 to 30 or 40.
Deviation from consensus is just that, deviation from consensus, nothing else. It assumes consensus is correct. You might just as well calculated deviation from R365, or BHP, etc.
In life, consensus is about 50% correct and 50% wrong.

some rankers go to top 30 (BHP) OR top 40 (Rugby365) ,think it would be fair to do average deviation for top 30 ?

The value under each Ranking Website indicates the average number of positions each team on that website differs from the consensus ranking.
Looking at the top 10 in your table comparing HouseR and SBRblog, you can see that HouseR ranks teams much closer to the consensus top 10. In contrast, SBRblog includes several teams (e.g., Outeniqua and Northwood) that differ more from the consensus. This is reflected in the calculated average deviations: HouseR (0.4) and SBRblog (0.9).
In summary: the lower the score, the closer the rankings are to the consensus.
