Grey College have suffered two defeats in as many powerhouse encounters against Paarl’s giants in 2025. Not since 2015 has the rugby factory in Bloemfontein lost more than two matches in a single season. Coincidentally, 2015 was also the last time Affies notched up one of their five historic victories over Grey — a win made even more special as it was recorded at Grey’s formidable Jock Meiring Street fortress.
Now, the strong Affies outfit of 2025 travel to the Free State capital to face a wounded Grey side undoubtedly desperate for a response. Not many will expect Grey to dominate the forward exchanges — an area that has become the cornerstone of the Witbulle’s strength.
As always, Affies boast a quality scrumhalf and can count on a highly rated game manager at flyhalf. However, their backline, while competent, lacks the extra dimension needed to truly unsettle elite opposition.
By contrast, it’s in Grey’s DNA to play high-tempo, expansive rugby. Their mobile forwards are well supported by a backline known for good handling and explosive plays. For this reason, Grey enter this high-stakes encounter with the more complete all-round game — and plenty to prove.
Since the introduction of the 5-point try in 1992, Grey College has recorded three or more losses in only 8 of the 30 completed seasons.

I am taking a drive down to Bfn this weekend.
I think Affies is going to win comfortably, but some Bester’s biltong, Stadium Cafe crisps and a Longhorn dinner will be my comfort food.
50/50?
Can affies DV beat Grey??????
