Graeme College Rugby Day 2014
The annual Graeme Rugby Day takes place on Friday 21 March 2014 at Graeme College in Grahamstown. For Eastern Cape school rugby supporters, it does not come much this. With the exception of Daniel Pienaar, just about all the best Eastern Cape rugby high schools will be in action …

THE TRADITIONAL STATE BOYS SCHOOLS SPORTS CHARTER
Here is the draft copy of a Charter that 24 government schools were reported to had agreed to back in November 2013 (names of 24 schools here: http://blog.schoolboyrugby.co.za/?p=5901)
TRADITIONAL STATE BOYS SCHOOLS SPORTS CHARTER
Born out of concern that some of the high profile sports at our schools are increasingly being driven by non-educational imperatives and affected by questionable (unethical) practices, we the members of the coalition of state boys schools affirm that sport is an important part of the educational programme at our schools and that in the first place it exists to help us develop strong character, healthy attitudes and life skills in ALL our boys.…

Glenwood’s Eldoraigne recruits add rugby depth
Glenwood has increased it’s rugby depth for the 2014 season by acquired the services of three Eldoraigne boys, two of whom represented the Glenwood 2nd XV against Westville over the weekend and sat on the bench for the 1st XV game.…

Recap of the biggest school rugby upsets & surprise results of 2013
The 2014 school rugby season has barely started but already Sentraal and Grens have already recorded two upsets that could quite easily rank amongst the biggest upsets of 2014 when the season is done. …

2014 | 1st XV | 15 | 32 |
Glenwood ran in five tries in a resounding 32-15 win on Westville soil. The match played on a very hot March afternoon did seem to slow the tempo of Glenwood’s attack a bit but not as much as it did Westville’s defence who were slow to react to threats and made recurring errors.…

KZN 2014 under-16 rugby season underway
This 2014 KZN Tier-1 under 16 season is about to kick-off. The age-group’s teams will have to work to match the excitement of last year’s very competitive under-16 group that produced some unpredictable results and proved to be a great advert for the healthy state of KZN school rugby. …

It’s Paarl Boys High up next after Paul Roos for brave San Isidro
It looks like it might be a case of out of the frying pan, into the fire for San Isidro, the touring club from Argentina. Last Thursday they took on Paul Roos and this Friday they’ll pit their talents against Paarl Boys High (HJS). One thing is for sure, San Isidro will return to South America with the proud knowledge that they took on a couple of the best that South Africa has to offer.…

Border powerhouses Queen’s College & Selborne name their teams
Here is the first look at what the Border big guns Queen’s College of Queenstown and Selborne from East London have to offer this season. Both schools will be in action at this Saturday’s Border Schools Rugby Day …

KZN tier-1 rugby door opens wider for Port Natal
Port Natal has won the right to play against the Glenwood and Hilton 1st XV’s this season.
The White Knights traveled to George Campbell’s beautiful grounds at North Beach in Durban on Saturday, 08 March and came away with a hard fought 18-13 win after 70-minutes filled with memorable moments. For either team the victory alone in what is usually a tough inter-schools fixture to win would have been cause for celebration. There was however more to the result. Due to the two schools having a twinning arrangement in place for fixtures against both Glenwood and Hilton, it means that Port Natal now gets the first team games while George Campbell will take on the second teams at the same venue on the same day.…

It’s Glenwood vs Westville for the 48th time in history
It may not have started out that way in 1964 but Glenwood and Westville are now the two most power rugby schools in Durban, making their derby on Saturday 15 March, the biggest match on the city’s school rugby calendar. Let’s just say: HUGE game ahead!…

Coca Cola T20 cricket: Kingswood victims of their own success
A short while back I blogged about how jacked up Kingswood were with their preseason rugby preparations. In spite of every one of the rugby players in their 1st XV squad being a dual sportsman, the little Grahamstown co-ed private school had managed to organise their 1st XV squad well ahead of other bigger high schools from the Eastern Cape. Now much closer to the start of the rugby season well laid plans are slightly derailed.…

Over-age school rugby player Siyabonga Tom: all you see is green & white, green & white, green & white!
Before becoming South African schoolboy rugby’s most well-known over-age fraudster, TV audiences might have seen Siyabonga Tom wearing the green jersey and white shorts of Glenwood or perhaps the green jersey and white shorts of the SA Schools team. This past weekend he was back on TV, wearing the number 21 for Spring Rose from the Eastern Province in the Cell C Community Cup.…

New coach has Hilton College training twice a day
If there were any doubts about Hilton College being able to maintain the same standard of rugby perseverance that was experienced under their former professional head coach Brad Macloed-Henderson, these must now surely be cast aside by reports that under new teacher-coach AC Blume, 1st XV hopefuls are being put through their paces sometimes twice a day in preparation for the private school’s season of 13 games.…

So far so good for Kearsney ahead of Northwood game
Kearsney returned home from their short annual tour of Northern Natal with two confidence boosting wins under the belt. The results in themselves against Vryheid High (57-0) and Pionier (35-10) are probably not as significant as what the coaches and players achieved in terms of building team spirit, developing cohesion, gaining match fitness and working on game plans in live match conditions.
Prior to the tour, Kearsney started with an encouraging 29-3 win against the hosts at the Voortrekker Night Series.…
