From SACS: SACS TAKE DOWN BISHOPS TWICE
The South African College High School (SACS) played host to Diocesan College (Bishops) on a cold and rainy morning in Newlands. Despite the conditions the oldest schools derby in South Africa lived up to expectations as a desperate Bishops team threw everything at a gutsy SACS side. A strong North-West wind meant it was a game of two halves, SACS winning the first (8-nil) and Bishops the second (7-6), meaning the hosts won 14-7.…

Not since Grey College in 2010 has the undisputable top ranked school in SA been able to win every single match they played during the season*.…

There was a cup final feel about the Paarl Interskole match which lived up to its hype of being a well-attended and closely contested affair. Paarl Boys High beat Paarl Gymnasium 16 – 10 after a nail-biting closing few minutes.

It was always going to be a big ask and despite throwing everything they had at the hosts the class of the wine farmers and their ability to capitalise on every opportunity meant the hosts won this Inter-schools dress rehearsal 30-11.…

One of the biggest Craven Week questions every years is why does Western Province not have two representative teams. For many it seems like a logical step, which if anything would cater for the higher concentration of talent in their region and improve the quality on offer at Craven Week. Upon request, Ploegskaar was kind enough to put together his form choices for WP Country and WP City Craven Week teams. As expected both teams look very strong.…

For the second week in a row The South African College High School (SACS) travelled a short distance down the road to one of their traditional Southern Suburb rivals, this time Rondebosch Boys’ High. Once again the hosts were firm favourites, most of their largely Grade 12 team, having never lost a Southern Suburbs derby in their High School careers. For the second week in a row SACS started slowly conceding an early lead before coming back to win 27-15 (Half-time 10-8). …

Leading rugby schools in Western Province were summoned to attend a meeting at headquarters earlier this week, where they were told that the use of the squad system which involves using fresh reserves off the bench for 1st XV inter-schools matches, would no longer be permitted.…

Apart from 60+ rugby teams, there are also 20 schools competing in netball over the weekend, so something for everybody. All the kids participate for free, including meals on Friday evening and Saturday thanks to Porterville’s great sponsors.[1200 participate,700 sleepover].…

Western Province is adopting a new national youth week selection strategy that should improve the fairness of their process quite considerably.…

This probably won’t be news to the well-informed Western Province community but for the rest of the schoolboy rugby loving country it might be a good thing to keep an eye on Bellville High School’s progress this season. This year’s 1st XV senior group has achieved really good results coming up through the age-groups.…

At Paul Roos, 2015 marks the start of their 150th year of existence. However the first few days of the new school year saw some of their avid adult rugby supporters stopping to focus on a disappointment rather than the celebrations that are set to come at the school. The unhappiness was caused when it was discovered that one of their top sportsmen (rugby and athletics) from last year’s under-15 age-group would not be returning to the school as he had joined rivals Paarl Gymnasium.…
