50-22 gets the go-ahead but no goal line drop-out for schoolboy rugby in 2024

APOLOGIES EVERYONE – I HAD TO CORRECT THIS – 50:22 WILL BE PART OF SBR IN 2024!!!

News is that ONE of World Rugby’s popular 2023 Law changes seem like it will be overlooked at schoolboy rugby level for now.

The decision to the “use-it-or-lose-it” styled goal-line drop-out seem to come down to SBR not having the necessary resources at its disposal to officiate the Law with the degree of accuracy required.

However 50:22 will be part of the 2024 season.

Another big deal change that will come into play in at least KZN is the implementation of technical areas. KZN is set to follow in Gauteng’s footsteps by having set areas for both reserves as well as coaching staff near the halfway lines. This will bring an end to coaches and players situated behind the posts. More importantly the days of assistant coaches patrolling the touchlines to bark instructions to players and/or attempt to influence referee and assistant referee decisions using gamesmanship and/or other less acceptable techniques seem like they will come to an end.
