Amper soos my eie seun. As jy geboorte gee aan iets is daar altyd n spesiale plekkie vir dit.

See there were some great rugby this weekend. Boland Landbou showed that they are a force to be recon with this year. Will be interesting to see how they go against Garsfontein. Then do not believe that EG will be dominated again, against Paarl Gim. EG have this nack off coming back with a bang. Menlo and Waterkloof can win again. Go North!!!!
Helpies did not play this week or next week because of exams. Cannot wait for St John’s.

@Ringo: I had the pleasure of watching three of the games live and let me assure you the black-and-white have absolutely nothing to worry about. Every so often, a team hits the high notes and things come together, that in my view was (a bit overdue) the case for the brown jerseys of Helpmekaar yesterday. Those are the games you remember one day, the big slams and the big hidings.
I have said this before, but I have the utmost respect for one of the best boys schools Gauteng has to offer. The supporters and teachers were exemplary, truly nothing short of exhilarating to hear them chant and cheer continuously even if their team is down by 50 (I have it on video so will enjoy it again and again in years to come). To me that crowd and that vibe represents so much of what schoolboy rugby should stand for, not to even start with the positive energy the Jeppe educators bring to the developing young minds, many of which would have never had the opportunity were it not for the tireless work of everyone in the black-and-white. Chin up guys, next year who knows, you might give the Helpies a lot to think about on the rugby field again.(I hear that it is a young team, but Helpies have about 40% of their squad in gr. 11 as well….) That ball is not round and Jeppe have some very talented players and highly regarded coaches around. Did I mention its only the start of the season. Plenty of ruggas to play and enjoy. Good luck to Muzi and the boys for the rest of the season.

    @Ringo: These things happen.

St Alban’s beat Jeppe at home in 2012, so there were high hopes for a win away with a better team in 2013 – five went on to become pro rugby players, including a Bok B team player. However, they lost by 88 and the score should have been higher! 8-O So, when St Albans returned to Jeppe in 2015 with an injury ravaged team with 11 grade 11s, it looked very ominous. But then they gave Jeppe a blood nose – I think the score was level at half time and St Alban’s lost by about 10 in the end.

Nothing stranger that School Rugby. I hope that Jeppe recovers, as they should do!

@Vleis: Thanks Vleis showing that it was not all one way traffic. The boys tried and some of those lower team boys seemed to having the greatest amount fun if anyone is concerned.

Cannot help but notice the high number of Helpies Pas on the side of the field. For a Wednesday fixture there was plenty parent support.

    Fanatical I must say.

@Wyvern: This is my opinion only now that you ask.
I don’t think we must b.. our self. Helpies still far from a rugby school. The main focus for Helpies in previous year have always been athletics. If there were a couple of good rugby players in the mix then great. This current matric group of which my son is part was not head hunted as some people might think. If some were then it was for their athletic capabilities.
I believe because their success from 0/14 it was good promotion for the schools rugby as suddenly Helpies was seen as a sort off rugby destination. I and I say I believe this is one of the reasons why they have current good 0/14, 0/15 and 0/16 teams.
Still far removed from a traditional rugby school. More than 99% of kids go to Helpies for IEB.
Then the other factor that is part of the current team success it a coaches. ALL of them are teachers at the school with a passion for rugby. They are not scared to learn for other coaches. I know that the Affies guys gave them some great pointers on game preparation.
Then the players: They have respect for all opponents. Some of these boys in other schools can be seen as role models. They love the opportunity to compete against them. Then the best of all they enjoy what they do. If ever you can watch a warm-up session have a look at how much fun the have. They do not take it as the end of the world. Just what school rugby should be!

@Vleis: ,@BrotherBear: and @Playa: It was 38 – 0 after 26 minutes in the first half and that was when I stuck my tail in-between my legs to run off to my date night…sitting in traffic was far more pleasant than watching the carnage. That number six from Helpmekaar can play and If I am not mistaken the left wing scored 4 of the first 6 tries. Some sheer pace on the outskirts. Really interesting seeing an Afrikaans school running the ball like that and not playing koppestamp. Seeing a number 6 flanker throw a 20 metre pass in full flight to the wing was a real sight. Well played Helpmekaar.

Overall I think the game was tough and there is no shame in taking a hiding when you are outgunned. I am just gonna have accept that this might be one of those learning experience seasons which hopefully does not demoralise our boys too much going into next year.
But for the record books yet another devastating loss to a private school.

However I will be on the stands supporting the boys, hope they keep their heads up rugby fortunes are a wheel they turn and the season is marathon not a sprint. I think these experiences will stand us in good steed in the second half of the season.

@Riempies: Those are impressive scores!!! Helpies really have been the standout private school in SA schoolboy rugby for the past couple of years now. Has something changed in the rugby structures etc. or is this just a good patch?

    @oldschool:
    O/14 B wen 33-7
    O/14 C wen 40-0
    O/15 A wen 23-15
    3des wen 33-5
    2des wen 47-31
    1stes wen 64-0

I think the 4th Team lost to Jeppe.
The 0/16 did not play due to tragedy at Jeppe. Our condolences to the family. Then the u/14 did not play as they going on tournament this weekend.

O ja, net so n kant nota…

North-South games definitely the pick of the bunch this weekend. Sacs did EG Jansen no favors and I expect that Boland Landbou will mike life extremely difficult for them. Boland to take this one. Gim won’t make same mistakes again and I cannot see Garsfontein repeating their heroics of last year.
Don’t think Outeniqua is as strong this year and Menlo might very well beat them, although it will be close. Stellenberg’s game against Waterkloof is difficult to predict, although home ground advantage might just favor Waterkloof. Whether I’m right or wrong, there’s no doubt that the North will be much stronger this year which should make for a great afternoon of rugby.

I think that the match was streamed live on the KES facebook page, so you might be able to still watch it.

@beet: According to twitter, Helpies beat Jeppe (at Jeppe) by 62 to 0 8-O and KES beat St Alban’s (at KES) by 33 to 17. It was 26 to 17 with a minute to go.

Anyone close to Jeppe know what happened? I know from experience (supporting) how difficult it is when you have a 1st team dominated by gr11s that is further ravaged by a spate of injuries.

Rampant Helpmekaar putting 64-0 on Jeppe. Should have been much higher but referee seemed to stem the flow at end. Don’t know if one can say much more, except well done Helpies and good luck to Jeppe on their season.
