Recently a revised list was put out with Rondebosch prop Ashwyn Adam and Gimmies’ flyhalf Walter Smit being added, while another Rondebosch player Zain Davids is moved from prop to his more accustomed position on the flank.…

The recent returns from injury of Paarl Gim’s lock JD Schickerling and centre Ryan Oosthuizen, two players that haunted Outeniqua during Gimmies 37-25 victory back in April, is bound to have a significant effect on the outcome when the two sides meet again in this year’s Burger Trophy main final. Paul Roos prides itself on being a top rugby school and this season has been particularly difficult for them. 06 August 2013.  John Mitchell, ex All Blacks player and coach who is famous for guiding the Lions to Currie Cup Victory, will teach approximately 2 400 rugby players from 40 schools around South Africa about what it takes to ‘Power Through’ from school boy rugby to Super Rugby and beyond. He will be demonstrating new techniques, drills and give guidance on other performance related aspects of training, like hydration, before, during and after matches. …

Just as the first sighting of a robin signifies the start of spring in England, so the massive Interschools clash in Paarl, the SWD showdown and the start of the second round of the southern suburbs derbies on Saturday 3 August 2013 herald the closing stages of the local schools rugby season.…

Saturday, 03 August 2013 marks the date for the biggest schoolboy rugby match on the South African calendar. Paarl Gymnasium and HJS Paarl Boys High, two of the perennial powerhouse rugby schools in the country go head to head in the derby of derbies.…

Home team Paarl Boys High scrapped home 21-20 on Brug Street against Paul Roos thanks to a late try, scored with less than 3 minutes left on the clock. In so doing the Blue Army extended their winning streak against the Maroon Machine. The weather conditions were poor but the boys still managed to put on a great entertainment package with five tries thrown in. Also outstanding on the day was the singing by both sets of schoolboy supporters and the settling at Brug Street seemed to amplify their great school spirit.…

Paarl Boys High have an astonishing school A-team record in Western Province inter-schools at the moment. They have lost one A-team game in sixteen matches this season. This puts them top of the pile in the province that we need not remind everyone, has won the under-18, under-16 and under-13 national provincial titles in 2013. …

JD Schickerling, the 2.03m, 107kg Paarl Gim lock has been sidelined for a further six weeks and will therefore not take part in the up and coming under-18 international series.…

13 July 2013  Western Province beat the Golden Lions 45-29 in the unofficial final of the 2013 Coca-Cola Craven Week in Polokwane on Saturday.

The win meant that Western Province became the only team at the week to win all three of their games, and they were rewarded with the inclusion of seven of their players in the SA Schools team that was announced at the end of the tournament.…
