I must say, I’m loving the change in times  . Very tempted to drive back to Paarl on Monday to catch at least the last 2 games of the day…with traffic, I’ll probably only realistically catch the Paarl Gim-Dale game.

Sien uit na die Gim vs Grey PE wedstryd. Wonder of ons al ooit teen hulle gespeel het.

@sacssupporter: I have been told that the draw is done on a fair and equal basis that results in each school getting to play all others over a period of two/three years – so Paarl Gym had nothing to do with the draw. Just happens to be the easier draw this year.
Still it’s going to be a very festive three days – Paarl Gym are great hosts so we can expect to be spoilt on and off the field!

@sacssupporter: CW selections will not affect any of the Cape Schools Reps apart from Paarl Gym either way, going on the past few years BL, ‘Bosch, ‘Berg and SACS will each maybe lose one, tops 2 players to the Academy side

@Benhard: @Benhard: I had a chat to our headmaster last night who assures me that the draw for the Cape schools week has to ensure that all schools get a chance to play each other over two years so they do not “fix the draw” to suit themselves. Remember too that the E/Cape sides are also affected by Craven Week so overall the teams playing are the best available – still makes for a great week of rugby – I’m sure the Gimmies guys will host a supurb event.

Paarlgim will effectively take on the Eastern Cape sides with their Seccies – as 16 boys formed part of the final trials (of which the majority should form part of the Craven Week or the Academy side). The Cape Schools week will be a good indication of Gim’s depth – as some of the Chippies (3rd side) will almost definitely be a part of the squad.

@rugbyfan: I had also heard the numbers reason but as you stated, my question to that was how do you justify that if you play other schools with even less students than Queens?! They produce up to 9-10 teams in the open category against Grey PE. What I hear from the Queenians was that the politics interferred a lot(you know what I’m talking about), but since I think we’ve grown up as a country a bit, this fixture would be a great one given the history and tradition between the two. I won’t lie, it would be a massacre in the junior age groups(you guys do happen to massacre most schools in the juniors). I met some old Queenians from the 60s and the way they described the trips to bloem, you could just tell that it was a real derby. Its a shame really

@CapeMan: Well i take it you mean GCB and not Grey PE as Queens still play them.

Well not even most GCB people know why they stopped playing Queens and alot of us still believe it must be put back on the fixture list. There are people who say that it was because of depth but i think that theory is floored as alot of GCB oppentents dont have the depth Queens does and then cost which is not the case the two schools are only 320 km apart.

What makes it worse is this match was always GCB tradintional rival and that goes all the way back to 1924 as i know, No other school has come close to beating BCB more times than Queens have and that does not look likly to change. And one thing Queens did well the never rolled over some years when Queens had weak teams they pushed GCB very close were other schools just collasaped.

Even at a Old Boys Meeting last year this question was raised and nobody new why this had stopped. In all fairness Queens dont have the numbers and the boarders they had but i firmly believe as GCB goes they would do better than some teams currently been played for example Glenwood(no disrespect) there is not the ethos between the schools as there were between GCB vs Queens which there was and in all my years playing Queens nobody came close when it came to guts.

@CapeMan: If it rains alot Queens are in big trouble they will be playing soccer with the ball as you could call them the “Butter Fingers Team” That might be a bit harsh but its fact.

@Queenian: Ye Selborne vs Queens will be interesting i think depends alot on Queens ball handling also think it is a big let down for them otherwise if they can keep ball in hand Selborne might be facing 3 losses on the trot in there faces.

Remember that Craven Week happens the next week and most sides do not play their craven week guys at Cape Schools Week – it should have a major impact on Paarl Gym this year – maybe that is why they, as hosts, have chosen the easier games so as not to spoil their rankings???
In any case it should be a great week of schoolboy rugby….

@QC86: No, I don’t think Gus coaches Wynberg this side. Nevertheless, they are highly well coached. Their backline will slice you up if you give them enough ball

@Ploegskaar: Does the same guy coach Wynberg that coached them in 2011.Wynberg was the best coached side at the Cape schools week that year,in fact i said had that guy coached Selborne in 2011 they would have been unbeaten.

@Ploegskaar: You right Queens biggest problem is ball handling they have a super hot backline but just drop the ball the whole time.

@Queenian: All 4 the Cape Town teams are very competitive, structured and especially well coached this year. Those will be 3 though games for Queens and they will do well to come away with one win.

@Ploegskaar: I think with Queens it will be a matter of if they drop the ball they will lose all 3 and if they dont they could win all 3.

@Queenian: I will go watch at least 2 of the matches, and hope they play to their potential (or at least just for 60 minutes as opposed to 20). When they get it together, they are exceptional but seem to be their own worst enemies this year with basic lapses and errors. Looking forward to see the cream of the EC play none the less.

This is a really tough draw for the EC teams. Dale would have done well to win 1 game, but tough to say who they can beat in that line-up.Amadoda (Muir and Dale) may be heading for a bridge too far here.Grey, QC and Selborne will at best get 2 out of 3 here.I cant see any of them walking away unbeaten. But then again…this is schoolboy rugby.

Of the EC reps, I think Muir has the toughest assignment against IMO the 3 strongest WC teams at the CSW. Similarly Landbou’s fixtures look quite daunting.

@ @CapeMan: Ye you right there not sure what SACS are like but Queens are maturing into a decent team. I think the EC teams GreyPE/Queens/Selborne should win some games Dale is very weak this year and Muir have guts and are coming right slowly but surely but are maybe still a tier 2 team.
