JD Schickerling ruled out of SA Schools internationals

JD Schickerling, the 2.03m, 107kg Paarl Gim lock has been sidelined for a further six weeks and will therefore not take part in the up and coming under-18 international series. Schickerling has undoubtedly been one of the star players of the 2013 school rugby season and despite missing Craven Week due to injury, his irresistible form this year coupled with being an SA Schools player in 2012, got him the nod from the national selectors. However that green light was on the basis that he would be fit and ready for international duty. Based on what he has delivered this season, there is a very good chance that Schickerling will feature in Dawie Theron’s plans for the under-20 Junior World Championships of 2014.

At this stage Affies and Bulls lock RG Snyman must surely be  the leading candidate to replace him. His teammate Hyron Andrews from Garsfontein and Golden Lion Ryno Herbst from Monnas are two other players that may be considered.

Other news is that HJS Paarl hooker Daniel du Plessis hopes to be fit in time for the under-18 internationals. Look out for the humorous  story of how Daniel du Plessis got accepted to attend Boishaai, which will be published  Stoopstats.co.za one of these days.

    @Playa: Is it not tragic that when picking a Springbok team the best team is not picked because of this and that reason. If we want to attach the name Springbok or for that matter South African it is time we expect that team to be the best available team.

    @PaarlBok: Selected, but didn’t play.

    Anyway, I wasn’t looking for an argument, just seeking some views. I hear yours.

    Sad news for the lad indeed.I feel for him.He is better off taking this time out to rest, as he as a big and bright future ahead of him.Good luck young man!

    Just to play Devil’s Advocate…would it have been fair to include him though? I understand that he is a quality player, and would have walked into the team had he played at CW, but considering that a SA Schools side is selected from players at CW????

    Jammer om te hoor!! Het uitgesien om hom weer te sien speel.
    IMO sou ek Ryno oproep. Het soos n regte leeu gespeel op die CW. Lekker fisies en nie bang vir die afbreekpunte nie.

    Voel jammer vir Schickerling. Goeie slot wat hard speel asook baie goeie balvaardighede het.
    Stem saam dat RG nou n kans staan maar die slot van Goue Leeus (Nou sy naam vergeet???)het ook n fantastiese CW gehad. Dink beide sal geen span in die steek laat nie.
