The Border Craven Week management are encouraging local schools to offer their full backing to the Hoërskool Grens’ rugby festival now that it has been made official that there will not be a Border Schools Rugby Day 2024.

The Grens Festival fixtures are yet to be finalised.

I am not sure what changing the name has to do with keeping Afrikaans alive in the school – for me it is just changing for the sake of change. 90 years of history discarded.

Ek dink as twee skole saam smelt is dit glad nie n issue as die naam verander nie ,dit was die selde geval gewees toe Hoogland en Brakpan tech in Brakpan saam gesmelt het om Die Anker te vorm.
Ek wens julle alle sukses toe.

The reason for the name changing is to make a new beginning with new history and new traditions. The was a very difficult process but we as parents and teachers believe this was necessary to keep Afrikaans still in our school. The history of all the schools will not be lost etc. The high school will follow suit as it is basically all on one campus and this is a great opportunity for us to build an Afrikaans school in East London ( Only Afrikaans school with a hostel in a 300km radius) that will be competitive and offer our learners the opportunities that they deserve.

I couldn’t agree with you more. The Border Schools Rugby Day was going to self destruct at some point. This is due to poor management from our union of course

The primary school merged with Nahoon Primary.

Not sure why they would change the high school name, Grens has a long and illustrious history in the Border area.

It is sad that Grens Primary has been renamed Laerskool Ooskus Gymnasium. I wonder if the high school will follow suit?

What a joke. Border schools has been an organizational mess since before covid.

I’m glad this gives further exposure to the Grens festival as it has grown into an excellent preseason festival.

In my opinion, Border schools day should be scrapped and replaced permanently with the Grens fest.
