@Smallies: Jis AO Smallies.

@skelmbos: Da Costa is really good player.

Da Costa will be back for Wynberg and Bosch have nice big looseforward in Colin Paul Kemp coming back while the forceful SACS no.8 Connor King is back in 2024.

@skelmbos: as far as I’m aware he went to every trial incl the one in Wellington but unfortunately talent is not enough nowadays. 12 of the 23 need to be Players of colour which is why there are a number of 2nd team players in the squads, hence the saying Craven Weak.

Anyone know if De Costa, the Wynberg loosie, is U19 or injured? He has been mighty impressive against highly rated opposition on a consistent basis all through the season.

There is so little to choose between players in several positions.

I honestly think a different set of selectors could have picked a number of unlisted players and/or reshuffled others differently between the teams and we would be equally accepting of the abilities with these new teams.

Some really good players missed the cut.

I think of the Wynberg hooker van Schalkwyk
To me the Gim 12 Kobus Blanckenberg has been a key addition to help his team perform a lot closer to their true potential now.

A CW Week B team centre combo of Allison of Bishops and Badenhorst of Paul Roos would be more than capable.

I know he’s injured right now but Pereira openside flank from Stellenberg – what a player he is.

Rondebosch prop Swiels has had his moments.

Stoffels of Paul Roos is another who has done some good things. Unless he is u19, I reckon he would be in with a shot at CW at just about any other union – just that WP is so tough.

Honestly WP could probably send a D-team to CW and it would be better than a good few provincial A teams at the tournament.

Boishaai having 11 players at Craven Week – I can’t see this going down well.

Boishaai are a good team but not a great team. Loots and Mars aside, the individual ability has not shone through and as a team they can’t dominate their WP Prem opponents to the extent to say this is a very talented team that is underperforming.

@Smallies: Daardie vier skole is almal binne die WP. As jy Suid-Gauteng ‘n ander naam gee, sê Gauteng Platteland, of Laagland, val hy nog in Gauteng of nie?

An interesting question what impact players that played in their grade 11 year have on the team in their second year in the first team- motivation, team culture etc, given the new era of streaming and name recognition.

@Snelvuur: Was bietjie tong-in-die-kies.

A 13/10 split between forwards and backs seem to be the preferred selection policy. Makes sense with mandated duplicate front-rows, leaving lock/flank as the other two on the bench. Interesting that all the teams have 2 SH and 2 FH, leaving just one more position in the back 5 on the bench.

Would be interesting to note how many of these boys are not starting for their school first sides. I’m sure in the A side they all are but moving to the XV & Academy side there would be a number of them, which is why a lot of people spell this tournament as Craven Weak. The days of this tournament being the cream of SA schoolboy rugby players has long been lost.
