Northwood captain Enzo joins a unique under-17’s club

Versatile Northwood Knight Enzo van Niekerk has been named as their new captain following a season-ending injury to flank Lindo Nhlapo.

Making the appointment unique is that Enzo is still a Grade-11 under-17 player.

He joins the likes of flyhalf Brendan Cope who captained Durban High School for the entire 2010 and 2011 seasons and loose-forward Reegan Smith the Maritzburg College 2012 captain who was called on to lead the Red-Black-White for one important match against Affies in the absence of regular skipper Stefan Ungerer during the 2011 season.

It’s an extremely rare feat.

For this weekend’s Westville match van Niekerk who has stood out as a no.8 in the past will play inside centre.

Shame terrible news for Lindo to be ruled out for his last season. But well done to Enzo. A clever move hopefully as they look towards next year. Let him build some experience and then hopefully lead the team again next year. Some nice continuity at least. He has worked hard in a losing cause in most games. 2 nice wins at the Grey High festival at least. Keep it up boys
