Not sure if this is the right section but I will post some scores from the EC here.
Selborne 85-7 Stirling. Stirling had so much promise at the beginning of the season. Competitive matches against Queens, Dale and Brandwag. A statement draw against Selborne at the beginning of the season. I know Stirling were psyching themselves up for the clash against Hudson which promised to be possibly a challenge to Hudson’s stranglehold on the Border Coed rugby scene, only to be lose rather comfortably. This result is kind of surprising but Stirling seem to have run out of steam in the past couple of weeks while Selborne have quietly turned their season around with some consistency.
Hudson 22-15 Port Rex. Rex have not had a good season, but they gave Hudson a proper scare today and they can be proud.
Dale 42-36 St Andrews. Well done Dale on a good win Makhanda.

Bill Schroder (a previous headmaster of PBHS) who was tasked with securing donations by Old Boys after his retirement set the record straight in a few publications. Musk indeed donated a few times, BUT although the names of OLD Boys who donate are known, the amounts they contribute stay confidential at all times…the music/media centre/library at PBHS did not cost R2.50 and was built during that time…Just recently an innovation centre at PBHS at an (apparent) cost of R10m was also completed. 2 + 2 will always = 4.

Thanks for that info. Ten or twelve years ago, I read a biography or it could have been his autobiography back when he was probably a mere single digit billionaire. I’m by no means anti Musk like some people seem to be, but it also appears he did not exactly have a great time at PBHS and did not take kindly to them approaching him for donations when he started making his fortune.
If he were a rugby fan, imagine the possibilities. He’d be putting a team together for Earth v Rest of Universe…or maybe take the Bok squad up to zero gravity for ‘out of this world’ (& ultra high altitude) training. How’s that for a competitive advantage?

Remember that in the old Transvaal, the TED policy was that you went to school in the year that you would be 6 on 1st July. (And therefore 17 on 1st July of your matric year).Therefore in those days the older kids were the July babies and the youngsters were the June babies who would have been 17.5 at the end of their matric year.

Errol Musk told the full story in an interview – Elon teased a kid who’s father had committed suicide (called him (the father) stupid)) and the kid and friends promptly kicked the living sh#t out of him. When Errol complained to the school, the headmaster’s response was along the lines of, while they don’t condone the violence, Elon could not go around laughing at, and teasing kids, who had suffered terrible recent bereavements. Errol told the headmaster he agreed with Elon, the kid’s father was stupid. Thereafter, the Musk’s left Bryanston High for PBHS (funny that)! There are photos of Elon in the Bryanston High chess team – he was there for grade 8 and 9 years (1984 and 1985).

We had some very rough okes, but most of the pupils were placid. Our PE teacher (Mr de Jager) kept us on our toes – he was banned from attending Transvaal senior rugby trials for being too violent…in the 70s even!

I’ve always been a little sceptical of that story, Bryanston in the late ’80s not exactly the ghetto or Westbury… a fight could always go wrong or too far, but it doesn’t seem believable that they had that culture of pervasive violence in the Sandton suburbs, as opposed to the actual conflagrations in the townships for example.

KHS se 0/14’s het n baie goeie speler vir die toekoms,wat in Laerskool Saamtrek was en ook n SA spiesgooi kampioen in sy ouderdom. Groot seun. Gesien hulle was in die Kaap by al die Wynland 3 verlede jaar op uitnodiging maar lyk my die pa het KHS gekies. KHS het n baie goeie spiesgooi akademie so miskien wil hy hom daarop toespits.
Saamtrek het altyd n baie goeie span, wonder waarheen gaan die meeste.
Divan Fuller, oud Samie het HJS gekies tydens sy ‘ uitnodigings lang naweek’.
In 1977 het Saamtrek se 0/11 A die Wes Transvaal liga gewen deur Bailliepark 4-0 in die finaal op Olenpark te klop. Vir Bailliepark daai dag het James Kingston( golfer) Stefan Jacobs (Transvaal snelbouler ) en wyle Louis Vorster (Tvl kolwer) gespeel. Saamtrek het in die seisoen 347 punte aangeteken ( drie het 4 getel) en 0 punte afgestaan.
My enigste claim to fame op n rugbyveld is dat ek daai seisoen 15 van daai drieë gedruk het.

Massive one in Klerkies yes. I think its more of the broader community not wanting to test the local ER-infrastructure than one school dodging the other. Some of the derbies late nineties/early 2000’s ended before the final whistle was blown..
KHS has a rich rugby history, if I am not mistaken, won the Direkteurstrofee (or equivalent) 3 years in a row in the sixties. My uncle played in two of those teams. I think Mate hits the nail on the head with the Noordheuwel/Monnas – Wesvalia/KHS comparison. Both good schools, Wesvalia focusing on local intake while KHS has the benefit of boarding facilities as well.
I am glad this derby is getting a new life, just like all local derbies in the platteland, it is extremely important for the town as a whole to have. Will be keeping an eye on the juniors as well, as I understand KHS got a more than decent u14 group in this year.

Wesvalia has never really been a sport school. I can’t think of any notable rugby players except the Cloete brothers who played OFS ( both played 3 rd team at school , Jannie Roets played a few games scrumhalf for Transvaal in the 80’s, Bertus Pool played for Western Transvaal and Northern Transvaal ( did his matric at Potch Gim) and then Nick Bester ( iron man ; Comrades )
Bester and Esterhuizen were not guys to mess with in a night club, neither was Pool
