    Playing conditions differ from Cape to the Highveld. So even if you aren’t playing at your school’s ground, the altitude, local weather, way the ball travels in the atmosphere, and surface firmness (usually) is the same. Cape or KZN teams who play up on the dry winter Highveld at altitude definitely experience a shock that they have to adapt to quickly. But full credit to all the Bere’s wins, most were away from home. In fact, the Bere’s worst performance this year was in fact at home.

    Ek verstaan ook nie. Kan oupa vir ons verduidelik. Verduidelik ook asb hoe Garsfontein dit reg kry om al hulle games tuis te speel. Ek sien jy klasifiseer saam TWE en n paar ander games by Affies as tuis games vir al die skole van Gauteng-verduidelik ook dit asb. Wildeklawer-Kimberley as tuisveld vir enige skool wat teen die Kaapse skole speel.Verduidelik asb. Eks oop vir n verduideliking en is nie sarkasties nie, miskien mis ek iets.

    So as hulle op Wildeklawer speel hoe word hulle bevoordeel? Affies is nie die Bere se tuisveld nie. So goed ek moan en se as die Bere vir Gim op Markotter speel was dit tuisveld voordeel vir Gim. Jou redenasie is dan beide Gim en PRG het tuisveld voordeel gehad toe hulle 2 weke terug gespeel het op Gim se velde. Die Bere het slegs tuis teen Affies gespeel van wie ons in die top 10 gespeel het. Die res was WEG wedstryde.Sou ons die res tuis gespeel het sou slegs Gim n kans op n wen gestaan het.So daar het ek dit nou gese, so sit dit in jou pyp en rook dit oupa.

    Vir iemand wat op sy dag alles van verloor op die rugbyveld geleer het op Barrydale, is hierdie draad op die oomblik baie amusant. So asof jou eie waarde bepaal word deur waar die skool wat jy ondersteun op die rankings is. Soos die laaitie vir sy pa gesê het in daai kar advertensie, “nothing, dad, I just smiled”! Want dan dink ek aan ouens soos Boan Venter (De Aar), Makazole Mapimpi (Jim Mvabasa), Lukhanyo Am (De Vos Malan) en Kurt-Lee Arendse (Paulus Joubert), en dink by myself alle skole van Struisbaai tot op Musina is belangrik in die groter konteks van rugby.

    Hoe gesond is ons rugby nie? Kinders speel hulle harte uit, elkeen vir die trots van hulle skool. Almal oefen hard en ondersteuners sien goeie rugby. Kan nie dink daar was al ooit soveel skommeling in die historisiese ranks nie. Ons behoort dit te vier dat die kompetisie gesond is. Gaan moeilik wees in volgende 5 jaar om duidelike gunstelinge te identifiseer en die marges gaan kleiner word tussen 1 en 7 (en 1-20 in die toekoms). Hopelik maak afrigting al hoe groter verskil en nie skole se beursies nie.

    Gonna be an unpopular opinion but I think the only way a top spot can be claimed is if you play against the traditional top 5 and beat them. Yes, I know it will be difficult to manage because of schedules and festivals but don’t think you can claim top spot but only play 2 or 3 of them in a given year. There is just too much uncertainty left on the table

    I appreciate the effort but this is a stretch. Gim have beaten 5 of the top 8 teams, all but one of them by three scores or more. All respect to Garsfontein, but their games against top opposition, besides Monument have been within one score. Honestly Gim is on their own tier, 2 to 7 is a coin flip on any day. But who knows, miskien verstaan ek ook nie.

    Garsfontein se oorwinnings oor Affies, Stellenberg en HJS spreek vanself. Maar dis daai drag slae wat Monnas by hulle gevat het, wat Garsies se no.2 posisie in my oë heeltemal bo verdenking plaas.

    @OupaPB (Comment #15) Gim rightly on top of the rankings. Based on form they are favorites for Paarl interskole, but if they lose it does not therefore mean the rankings are a joke. It would mean a team lost against expectations and slipped down the rankings as a result. For most of the season they have been the strongest team in SA – alas, not in their first game of the season, on that day they were the second strongest team… on that field. The most accurate ranking of 2026 will be the final ranking of 2026.

    Ai, Garsies het jou hele brein oorgeneem – met die aanname dat daar wel ‘n paar selle is.
    As daai paar selle wel iets van junior skolruggby weet sal jy weet dat almal kans kry om te speel op toer. Kom ons help jou. In die 1ste game was die o.16-span 50/50 A en B en in 2e game het die ander helftes gespeel, en in 3e game die volspan – wat toe vir Stellies met amper 40 gewen het.
    En soos reeds gesê – wat jy nie onthou nie, Noord-Suid was verlede jaar by Paul Roos.
    Maar nou ja, dis jy wat kommentaar lewer, so ons kan seker nonsens verwag.

    En Garsfontein speel nie in die Kaap nie (hulle junior spanne wat wel gespeel het wys hoe hulle sal sukkel). Jy kan nie n nr 1 span he wat net in sy area speel. Selfs Stellenberg moet bo Garsfontein eindig, beide hulle verlore was weg. En as Paul Roos vir Grey wen, hulle ook.

    Yip. En Garsies se opponente se gemiddelde ranking is 16 teenoor die 18 van Gim. Objektief dink ek Gim is die beter span, maar die gaping is nie so groot soos die Polyphemusse daar in die Kaap dink nie.

    As ek reg tel het Gim al teen 5 van die top 10 gespeel en 1 verloor , terwyl Garsfontein reeds teen 6 van die top 10 gespeel het en ook net 1 verloor het…m.a.w as Gim dan interskole verloor en Garsfontein verloor nie weer nie het beide teen 6 van die top 10 gespeel, maar het Gim dan 2 verloor en Garsfontein net 1, dan maak dit vir my logies sin dat Garsfontein nommer 1 moet wees en dan is @OupaPB se comment inderdaad ‘n joke.

    @Beet, your ranking is in my view very good, and not only because Gim is at nr 1. My only criticism is that I do not believe that Grey and Hilton’s games against the Aussie side should be included for ranking purposes. Think about it: if Paarl Gim this year invited 3 NZ schools to Paarl and lost against all 3 that would have taken us to possible nr 6 on rankings with 4 losses when we have been the best team thus far.

    Die coach is verander van verlede jaar af, maar die arme man …
    Solank as wat keurders nie verantwoordelikheid neem en leer hoe om ‘n span te kies binne die reels nie, sal dieselfde ding jaarliks gebeur.
    Hulle het geen benul van hoe “game theory” werk nie en daarom kry jy die spanne wat jy kry.
    Al wat die Bulle kan help is as die outjies uit hul velle speel.
    Voel baie jammer vir die losskakel!

    Bietjie “off topic” maar kan iemand dalk aan my verduidelik hoe een van Pretoria se beste losskakels van n CW posisie al die pad na n onder 18 XV-tal span gedrop kan word? So ook verstaan ek nie hoe die CW of AW span nie een n ordentlike skrumskakel kan kies nie. Geen disrespek teenoor die outjies wat gekies is nie maar die CW span se 9 speel 3de span rugby by sy skool en die AW 9 speel nie eers skrumskakel nie en ek kan verkeerd wees maar het hom ook nie in die laaste 3 jaar al sien skrumskakel speel nie. Die BB Cravenweek span gaan sukkel die jaar as dinge so gebeur en gekies word. Die eerste tekens was klaar gister daar teen die Sharks se CW span.

    Absoluut! en baie van ons trek @Snelvuur en sy PRG maters se siel uit oor die pak slae wat PRG teen Gim gekry het, maar almal wat so klein bietjie van skole rugby af weet sal besef dat die Gim/PRG telling ‘n “black swan” gebeurtenis was en as daardie telling meer “normaal” was sou selfs Gim se punte verskil heelwat anders gelyk het.

    Ja, presies. Ek’s nie ‘n groot voorstaander van puntverskil as ‘n maatstaf vir rankings nie – dit maak nie rerig saak of jy ‘n game met een punt of met 50 punte wen nie (al maak die Gim verloor ons bietjie seerder oor dit so ver was), ‘n wen is ‘n wen. Maar as mens op punteverskil gaan staatmaak, moet jy ook die konteks daarby sit en appels met appels vergelyk.

    Goeie punt – vat Tygerberg, Worcester Gim en Melkbosstrand, wat nie onder die top 70 skole is nie, se punteverskil weg, dan is Stellies se punteverskil 124.
    Die Bokke sou nie die Wêreldbeker gewen het nie as punteverskil die maatstaf was.

    Gim is next level teenoor die ander skole hierdie jaar – hulle het daai allemintige punteverskil teen top skole deur die bank opgestapel. Stellenberg se punteverskil word egter redelik skeefgetrek deur wedstryde teen skole soos Melkbosstrand en Worcester Gim wat ook saamtel. Hulle wedstryde teen die ander top 20 skole was baie nader gewees.
