Paul Roos, long regarded as one of the country’s premier all-round schools and blessed with considerable resources, appear to have struck gold through a touch of good fortune. Grey College old boy Pine Pienaar, who has carved out a strong reputation as a professional-level rugby coach — most recently serving as Namibia’s defensive coach — has signed on to lead the Maroon Machine’s commercial division.
This is familiar territory for Pine, who has been spearheading commercial operations at his Affies in Pretoria in recent years, gaining valuable experience in the process. The move to Stellenbosch follows his wife’s appointment to a top position in the student town — a timely development that now aligns perfectly with Paul Roos’s strategic growth plans, while also bringing the added bonus of Pine’s insight and expertise on the rugby front (if required).
Translated communication by Paul Roos Gymnasium:
Dear PRG Community
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Pine Pienaar as the new PRG Commercial Manager, effective 1 January 2026.
Mr Pienaar is currently the Commercial Manager at the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) in Pretoria, where he has done outstanding work over the past several years.
The Pienaar family’s move to Stellenbosch follows a career opportunity for Mrs Pienaar. The timing of their relocation coincided with a strategic decision by the PRG Governing Body to establish a fully-fledged commercial office under the leadership of a capable and experienced manager. The Governing Body therefore seized the opportunity to secure Mr Pienaar’s proven expertise and experience for this specialised role.
The Commercial Manager will be primarily responsible for the development and management of alternative income streams – including sponsorships, donations, and partnerships – as well as for overseeing the implementation of capital projects arising from these initiatives.
Mr Pienaar will head up the PRG Commercial Office with the support of Mr Frans le Roux, in his capacity as Marketing and Communications Manager. Mr Le Roux is exceptionally well equipped to drive the school’s strategy around creative marketing, consistent brand management, and effective communication – both internally and externally.
We look forward with great enthusiasm to welcoming Pine and Marina, and their daughters, Isla and Iné, to the PRG community. We wish them everything of the best with their move to the Winelands.
PRG Governing Body
