Kingswood vs St Andrew’s but not K-Day

On 01 May 2021, Kingswood will host St Andrew’s in the first of two planned meeting this season but only the 12 June rematch will carry the title of K-Day, which in years gone by was one of the best attended annual schoolboy rugby derby matches in South Africa.

The two schools first met in 1898 – making it 123 years of history!

Both schools wrapped up the short preseason with promising outcomes.

On their short tour of KZN, SAC overcame Michaelhouse 26-21 thanks to a late intercept try. They then left it late to seal a 12-0 against Clifton. Attack went well against House but did not fire against Clifton. Scrumming needed work as well.

Bad news for SAC is talented flyhalf Sam Francis has an ankle injury and may not be ready to go for this match.

This year’s Kingswood team has been good coming up the age-groups. They sent out a strong message of intent with a 25-30 practice match defeat to regional heavyweight Grey High. Their forwards really looked the part in this first hit out.

Jet-shoes fullback Dwayne Pharo is the Kingswood dangerman. The multitalented sportsman has a personal best of 10.30s for the 100m and 21.85s for the 200m.

Streaming details are yet to be finalised.
