Congrats to Stellenberg on their win against Bosch. Used their opportunities well to get the result. There are some big boys in that pack (their locks are massive!) that ultimately laid the platform.

However, I must say that it wasn’t a particularly pleasant game to watch. A lot of off-the-ball type incidents and general ‘nastiness’ filled the atmosphere. I never like to bring up the ref but I feel I have to here – he made some very puzzling inconsistent decisions, and had very little control over the game, which contributed to it; I think there were 6-7 yellow cards given in this game.

I’m not going to say much more as don’t want to come across as being sour, but I feel an experienced official would’ve calmed the players and emotions down. Instead, we could’ve watched a good game involving two talented teams as opposed to a game which left many players hobbling off with injuries, and the crowd looking away every time a tackle was made or a ruck formed.

    (Hoof+BL)+(sport dir+rugby dir)+(Afrigter+seuns)+(ouers +support)
    =Hoof+rugby dir+afrigter +support
    =Rugby dlr +afrigter
    =Wen

Westville were on fire against Kearsney. Every time they laid hands on the ball they tried to up the tempo. Following the lead from teams like Grey College and Glenwood last year, when you have forwards that can handle the ball like skilful backs, your team is just that much better equipped to play attacking rugby. It was hard to single out a Westville player for special praise. It looked like all were putting up their hands at some stage to make a valued contribution. It was a tough day for Kearsney but to see them playing hard and committed rugby right to the very end made me very proud. They have good team spirit. The Kearsney no.8 Mass Fierro was great to watch. He plays a completely different style of game to Gideon van Wyk of Boishaai. The latter proved to be a nightmare to deal with due to his pace and ability to read the game and get onto the right lines – he typifies the “linking” quality that is sort after in an 8. Mass on the other hand is an ever-willing big ball carrier. Maybe not quite in the mold of a Billy Vunipola as he has more of a Facindo Isa body dimension to him. Still u17 so hopefully he can build on this promise he’s showing.

I watched the Boishaai game on Saturday. I know the HJS attacking game was tops and that the ref pinged them a lot at the breakdowns. But to me it really looked like they in dominant in that aspect of play and overall the linespeed and focus of their D-fence really didn’t get the praise or reward it deserved.

I must say I was leaning towards the Gim centre pairing as my personal first choice before these CW selections were confirmed but I’ve always liked Quan Horn. His persistence = his never-say-die positive attitude. He was awesome on Saturday. He proved really hard for the Bishops defenders to handle.

@Chronicle: Doctors make an oath to save lives. He’ll have to unless he can refer another doctor within reasonable time.

But to get to your point. The matter is simple… What would you do as a parent? I support a certain school, and will support that school for as long as I live. I hope one day I’ll send my son there. If he goes and I’M UNHAPPY with a coach but he’s happy with the school, he should stay. If he’s UNHAPPY WITH THE SCHOOL, and not just a coach, then I’d have to take him out. It doesn’t mean I’ll stop supporting the school. I didn’t make an oath to have my kid there. I only oathed to myself to be a supporter of the school.

Just something that Richard Lowe said that made me think. Whether an institution is bigger than the child’s needs?
To take it to an extreme, a different example. Say a person is Hitler’s doctor and must treat him to prevent him from dying. The doctor does not believe in what Hitler is doing. Should he save his life, or not?

@Rugbyman: I said I will confess if I am wrong. Now, I must confess, I was wrong by blaming Monnas and apologise unreservedly.
I did not shoot from the hip, I acted on account of another blogger who stated they poached 4 boys from Transvalia. I should have made sure that these are facts before I accused Monnas.
I only managed to find one boy (and not 4) from Transvalia in Monnas’ first team. Murrayfield was right when he gave the names.
But I was informed that Monnas got boys from other schools than Transvalia. Now, I am not going to make the same mistake and say it is true and accuse Monnas as I was not able to verify the claims.
So, again, Murrayfield, you were right when you said I am going to have a red face.

@Chronicle: A good parent will always do what IS good for his/her children and not what they want to be good for their children.
Many parents believe their boys are the next rugby/cricket or whatever star and will make it better through a particular school.
But more often than not it does not happen.
A parent should not put his/her interests above that of the children.
To me it is a no brainer.

@Chronicle: I know exactly what you mean… If it is my boy and he is unhappy, I will move him…

Let me explain… there are many such situations, and when a boy moves the likes of you and some others on the blog always (mostly) blame the recipient school of poaching… exactly like you did with Monnas a few weeks ago in terms of the transvalia players… You assume and dont know the background… You shoot from the hip and hope to hit something… In my opinion it is none of your or my business why a boy moved school… I am of the opinion that there is always a push and pull when someone moves school!

Parents make moves on what they feel are the best for their kids…

I have made this point many, many times but I guess you like the sensation hence you will try and make it a big thing again… Im not interested in this argument again.

@Rugbyman: Let me explain. Say I attended school A and school A has a very strong brand. I had a wonderful time there and according to me nothing is better than this school. So, my son is attending the school and he is an outstanding player. But for some reason the school’s coaching structure does not cut it and works to the detriment of my son’s rugby. Should I hope things change at school A and keep my son there based on such hope, or should I move my boy to school B?

    I get what you say.
But this is a general question. Let’s not make it applicable to you and I would love to hear what bloggers say about this.
Say this is happening at a school a parent holds in high regard. Should the parent move his son, or stay due to his affinity with the school, in the process sacrificing his son’s chances of a career in rugby.

@Chronicle: My son finished school in 2017, was coached by RB in 2017. He is currently applying his trade at a smaller union, after successfully playing currie cup in 2018. My loyalty will always be with Menlo because of the opportunity they gave him, but .. I will hold the school responsible for not looking after quality coaches like @Murrayfield and RB.

    @knowthegame: Hi daar.
    Hierdie is eenvoudig.
Hou jy by jou storie, en ek by myne.

@knowthegame: Comments on FB states that Helpmekaar should have won by 50 points as they bungled 5 to 6 tries.
This sounds like it was one sided, but then it might be very subjective. Don’t know, wasn’t there.

@Richard Lowe: I find your comment interesting. If I understand you correctly, you will support the school no matter what. So, say your son plays for the u.16A team and is outstanding. The next year he will end up at a questionable coach where his career might suffer, what then?
Are you acting in your son’s interest by supporting the school no matter what?
If it was me I would do what is best for my son, no matter the institution.

@Richard Lowe: Ek hoor jou. Ek dink nie Rugbyman sal ‘n game gooi nie. Sorry.

@Wonder: Hy kan dalk net beter doen. DvdW was die oorsaak dat RB weg is by Menlo ..
