@HORSEFLY NO.1: College beat Bishops yesterday, not Twenty/20. Hopefully give the youngster’s some confidence.

@Grasshopper: I’m sure a lot of purists will tell you that T20 is not real cricket to begin with. It’s like the 7s of rugby. A different approach required and a different set of rules.

I mean come on, T20 is starting to sound like some made up American sport….over eliminator! The beauty of real cricket is in the dual’s between batsman and bowler, almost like a chess game where stalemate can happen. This T20 I hope is just a fad and eventually the ICC sells it’s rights to an American baseball team…….

Well done Westville on beating Waterkloof by winning the one over eliminator.( after scores were tied at 144 after 20 overs). The super over was tied at 9 all and it went to number of 6’s hit( Westville 6 ,Waterkloof 2) Cricket or not it is pretty exciting. This means there are now no unbeaten teams and tomorrow all teams will have to go for gold.

@beet: I just hope we are not going to hear an excuse about the dry conditions after tomorrows match in Bloem. That would not be the reason for their loss- much rather too much of their mothers food tonight in Bloem. As far as the T 20
“cricket” is concerned, I agree- its just not cricket. The only thing it has in common with cricket, is the bat.

@Star, exactly why I don’t like T20, oh sorry baseball! It’s really does depend on the day. Yes, Westville did well at Cape schools last year, this is a new year and new teams. Rondebosch, Bishops and Wynberg are traditionally very strong at cricket…

@ Grassy-last year Westville was the only unbeaten team at the Cape schools week and won all the awards. I do not think Cape sides “are just better.” Rondebosch has just been beaten by St Andrews.( Bog must be happy that the Bloem boys pulled through. Maybe it is sign for tomorrows match between the Cheetahs and the Sharks) It is more the nature of T20 I feel where one performance can have such a large impact on the outcome.

Guys, Rondebosch is a very good side both in T20 and the longer form. I think they beat Glenwood in the preseason tourno by like 6 wickets. Maybe the Cape sides are just better. However, you are right about the rain. i reckon about 8 weekends have been rained off in the past year. Glenwood has not played Westville in like 2 years due to rain and now the boycott…

@ Beet- you cannot believe how much game time has been lost. When the boys played DHS 2 weeks back it was almost 4 months since they would have had a competitve knock in the middle. And not playing GW also did not help matters  But no excuses though.

@star: We are at a huge disadvantage in KZN with all the summer rainfall we have. Our guys must have about 40%-50% less game and practice time than other parts of the country esp the Cape with their winter rainfall climate.

Waterkloof(Titans) 144/8 off 20 overs. The Westville middle order will be tested once again.

I was always a little worried that as we had won by 8 wickets( DHS and GW) and 6 wickets(Hilton) our middle order which is a bit inexperienced had not been properly tested. Hopefully they will learn from this and turn things around. Most of all I hope they thoroughly enjoy the experience.

@BoishaaiPa: Goodnes me, looks like cricket scores? Where are their defense strategies? Speaking of cricket, I read an interesting comment in an old SA Rugby mag- Allan Donald saying about Johan Goosen, when the latter was still U14. “The quickest he has ever seen at that age group” AD also felt that if he went on in cricket, he could have played at the highest level. Crickets loss, was rugbys gain. A certainty for the Superbru participants, is the Cheetahs as a banker.
