Talking point: Gauteng DoE’s online application system

An email received from a user:

Hi Beet,

Here is an interesting development for 2017.

I think it would form a good topic for discussion.

As from 2017, applications for admittance to all government schools in Gauteng for grades 1 (Not relevant here) and grade 8, must be done online via a portal on Gauteng Education Department website.

http://www.education.gpg.gov.za/Media/news/Pages/The-Gauteng-Department-of-Education-is-proud-to-announce-that-the-On-line-Application-System-is-now-live!–.aspx

As I understand, the parent registers with a home and work address, and the nearest school is linked. An option for 2 other preferred schools is also given.

Oh boy… HKGK…. Apparently no “walk in” applications will be accepted in future.

Schools such as Affies, Garsfontein and Menlopark in Pretoria, and KES and Jeppe in Johannesburg, and possibly Monument in Krugersdorp could be hugely affected.

@Cappie: I know of many parents applying to Boys High who are getting Girls High and Meisies as second and third options.
Be careful Cappie – just now she makes the Boys High first team.

I heard a story where some one applied for his daughter for Menlo. The system gave the two alternative options, one being an Art school somewhere in Pretoria, and the second to be Pretoria Boys High.

At least she will be head lady if she is taken up in Pretoria Boys High.

    And possibly PBHS – positively?

What about hostels / Boarding – surely that changes the equations for the likes of KES who has a strong Boarding culture?
