Easter Festival Fixtures & Results 2016 – Day 3, Day 2 & Day 1

St Stithians have come out on top in 2016 in terms of most competitive festival as far as the scores are concerned. Saint’s score difference of 13 edged out KES with 14 while Kearsney suffered from an unusually one-sided final day finishing with 18. As expected St John’s put together two very competitive match-days after their traditionally one-sided opening day.

@NW_Knight: From the KES Live Scoring Link:

“12:38 Try time but there is a flag against Ben Vorster.Straight red for number 3 from Ben Vorster”

“12:43 Yellow card for the Ben Vorster number 1. thats the second try disallowed for Ben Vorster after a player is dirty in the lead up. “

@Vyfster: There were only yellow cards against Ben Vorster. It was actually quite a nice game,. BV always looked better and should have scored more than they did. Yellow cards were justified and the whistle went long before the try line was crossed in both instances.

I was watching with no interest in either side, so I think your source may have watched the game through jaded glasses.

Outstanding performance by the Jansies. Their tempo today was off the charts. Urgency from start to finish and it was rewarded on the scoreboard

Score between Maritzburg college and EG Jansen should be swapped. Big win again for EG Jansen. One point loss against Glenwood and could have been 3/3, but still a brilliant weekend. Well done EG Jansen. But it is very tough to win 3 games in row at these easter tournaments as seen in the past.

Ben Vorster 54-12 St Davids….not bad if you get a red card in 1st half against you, followed by yellow card a minute or 2 later whilst only leading 15-5 at the time.
I wasn’t there today but apparently on both occasions BV were awarded a try, only to to be disallowed by horizontal flag from the same touchjudge (he must be a KES old boy…lol)….after this setback, and a halftime lead of only 18-12, the Vossies pushed ahead with 14 men in 2nd half and racked up the tries.

well done to Eldo’s for first win of tournament , good wins for KES, Kloof and kingswood.

@Beet: are the score in Maritzburg/ Eg game not wrong way around?

Did Helpies beat Monnas at st Johns? wow, that is massive for them

AHS is Affies ? Afrikaanse Skool Kroonstad is wat almal verwys na die Rooiskool?

Oh game one Monday that Queens side has the discipline and talent to abset a very talented Jeppe side…… I honestly thought the host mafia organisation would get sorted out by Kingswood good win for them… My analysis is that with a bit more patience I think Jeppe could have put more daylight between us and Kloof at least 30 points to nil would have been a more adequate statement of intent….

@GreenBlooded: Yes, good to see him back after a horrible injury. I wonder if him and Palvie are allowed to play at SANIX, is it under19? I think once the machine starts to roll and if they win confidence will build. SANIX will get them ready for the local season. Looking forward to Kearsney at home on Old Boys day and Grey Bloem going to Durbs (barring snow blocking Van Reenens)…

    @Grasshopper:

No doubt there is huge potential. Hence my comment that we should have won a lot more easily. Good to see Kev Smit back in action – he is all over the place and his ability to read the game and pop up in the right place all the time is great to watch. Unfortunately he was one of the main ball fumblers yesterday at crucial times. He will be disappointed with himself. The HMA will see him sitting on the sideline most of the season which is a great pity – we didn’t see him the whole of last season due to injury.

@Vyfster: Well this is our pack and they certainly were not bullied by EG Jansen yesterday.

    Vorster – 101kg – 184cm
    Botha – 96kg – 175cm
    Van Rooyen – 111kg – 183cm
    Weideman – 108kg – 192cm
    Van der Mescht – 120kg – 201cm
    Smit – 97kg – 185cm
    Brummer – 86kg – 181cm
    Palvie – 110kg – 188cm
    Total: 829kg
    Avg per forward: 103kg
    Avg Height: 186cm (6foot2)

Added to that about three guys in the backline who run the 100m under 11secs then we have a chance. But we play Affies in Pretoria this year so will be mighty tough…

@Roger…yeah, thanx, such is the nature of SBR, the boys are on a high now, but it was an almighty physical confrontation, I am sure there are some stiff and bruised bodies this morning.

So from the high of a win against KES in main game yesterday morning, to facing a wounded Marlow first game tomorrow morning, barely 36 hours later….real danger lurks there.

@Affiedorp…I will be very surprised if Nelspruit can keep up with this Affies team….but you never know.

But Paul Roos will be a cracker of a game!

I must say…I was mightily impressed by a piece in the Program book called “Sons Of This Place”……Written by Steve Jaspan for the 2002 School Centenary, updated for this program.
What an impressive story that tells, what a rich history it reveals!

@Grashopper….I saw Affies in action against Helpies 2 weeks ago,for anyone to stand a chance against them, will have to man up against their monster pack of forwards, and their relentless attacks……I believe the same probably true for Monnas.

But KES do have a good pack….if you fight fire with fire you will succeed….If you allow them to bully you up front, the floodgates will open.

Helpmekaar sliced open Affies defence with ease, even leading 12-8 halfway trough 1st half….but then their dominance up front started to count….and they took over.

So if Glenwood and KES can do that…..the battle will be won….if not, it will be a long day at the office!

@Vyfster: good luck for the rest of the festival – I had a feeling KES would struggle with this been their first hit out. With the fixtures they have coming up they better improve quickly! They are a very young team so it will be an up and down season but always fun to watch!

@Roger: yeah, thanx ….you’re correct was 26-22. KES scored in last movement.
Vossies started like a house on fire, 2 excellent early tries and penalty to race to early 17-0 lead.
KES came back, forwards started to dominate a little, BV struggled to secure own linout ball….suddenly 17 all, late penalty gave BV 20-17 halftime lead.

Second half real trench warfare, heroic defence by the Vossies….KES looked threatening but couldn’t score….rustiness played a part, with some handling errors creeping in….2 further penalties stretched lead to 26-17, before KES scored in dying seconds.

It is a big scalp for us, and we are very proud of the character shown….and at least we could avenge last year’s drubbing.

It is a privilege for us to be part of such a wonderful occasion, thanx for inviting us back.

KES will bounce back, and have the makings of an excellent team once they start gelling.

    Good luck for the season!

@GreenBlooded: In all honesty this win is a surprise. This was the one game I wanted to come up to KERF for.The pesimisits among Old Dalians will say this was the boys’ one big game of the season. Some of us quietly optimistic ones will say these boys have gotten the bad end of the stock since under 15 and it’s time they surprised a few people. That said I thought at best we’ll only get Framesby as a win. That College side has far too much quality.Really wish I had watched this game even if the result had home the other way

Not sure why the coaches took so long to put JJ on the field? He immediately made a difference. Good for Glenwood. Bit of revenge for last years Wildeklawer score. Still lot of space to work as a team. Scrummie did not have great game and no need to lose any lineouts. Looking to see a better performance saturday!

@GreenBlooded: My uncle watched the game and said Glenwood have real class, especially in the backs. He said once they really click or gel they will be very very hard to beat. He also said they have ample speed and skill in the backs, so let’s hope they reach their potential. Something quite a few of the past few years teams never reached…

    @Playa:

College had an easy shot a goal in the last quarter where they went for the lineout. That would have narrowed the gap to 7 points and taken the pressure off at the end. Dale are a great team – oodles of talent there and deserved their win. College just made too many tactical and handling errors.

For me, most of the games at Kearsney today where characterised by handling errors – particularly the Glenwood match. A pity cos there was potential for magic. For me the opening game was the match of the day. Kearsney were fully in control from the outset and dominated up front which set the platform for the best backline play of the day. I dare say had Kearsney taken on College or Glenwood they would have won by 20+ points. Richardson is a massive presence for them.

@GreenBlooded: A win is a win boet against a good EG side. Both schools only 2nd match so bound to be rusty…heard Palvie had a good game..

@Playa: Yep, as I said Dale backs vs Glenwood forwards but we have a good backline too. Watch out for Seun Maduna at centre and Lubbe on the wing….blitzvinnig

@Balikibaba: It certainly is one of DHS’s strongest sides in the past 5 to 10 years, so gutted for them in their 150th year…

Bali is back for a short while to comment as he is very busy.

Nice showing by Bishops to come from behind.

Don’t think this is one of Bishops’ strongest sides but nice to see the boys running it from all over and getting it right in the second half.

    @beet:

    of enige iemand anders.

@Grasshopper: In DHS’s defence, Bishops showed against a handy St Andrews side on Monday that they are great finishers. After blowing a 12-0 lead, they found themselves 12-17 down, then came back to finish off with a 27-17 victory. I’m more inclined to say it’s a fitness thing, and Bishops have that in abundance. Hard luck DHS

@Vleis: I was supporting DHS of course, it’s where my dad and uncle went to school. How they can let a 17-0 lead go is crazy. They could have had another nice private school scalp there to add to Hilton’s. Bugger!

Hard luck to DHS, losing 24-27 to Bishops having been well ahead for most of the game. Maybe fitness is an issue….or lack of belief in winning…

@GreenBlooded: 8-O Strong Kearsney or a weak Noord Kaap? That’s a massive score for Kearsney against a side that has been somewhat a force in recent years.

Try fest for Kearsney 55-10 win over Noord Kaap. Watts, Craze, Richardson immense performances for Kearsney.
