It is a start to the season with a difference for Helpmekaar. In recent years their campaign traditionally began with a trip to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands to face Michaelhouse, before another tough early-season assignment against Affies during March.
Both of those fixtures fall away in 2026.
Instead, Helpmekaar begin their campaign in Bethlehem against Witteberg — possibly the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Witteberg enjoyed a stellar 2025 season, although their preparations for 2026 have reportedly been hampered by injuries.
On paper, the outing should present a less daunting opening assignment than the stern challenge usually posed by Michaelhouse.
From Bethlehem, Helpmekaar will then make the first of two trips to KwaZulu-Natal when they face Maritzburg College for the first time since the schools met at the ABSA Wildeklawer tournament in 2022.
